***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm trying to keep up with this thread!
I hope picture of my set-up photograph as well as others do on this thread! I feel like my property is in constant disarray. Yours (all of you) look fabulous! I'm still working on my circular run around my round coop...ugh.

I might would like to make a capon clinic.

You all make me feel normal as far as my chickens go. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I appreciate it. People love my chicken stories, FB posts, etc., but then throw the ever-dreaded squinchy eye, raised eyebrow, kinda like they're in pain look with "So, how many chickens do you have." question. NOT ENOUGH!

Only those of us that have fabulous set ups take pictures of them, and mostly when they are new and still look that way. I can really only speak for myself

- but there isn't a whole lot of motivation to take pictures of what I have!

speaking of pics, yes i crop out the mess and thats nice to know others do too!! LOL! new seramas, Thanks you coral mitzi and june, i am in heaven today getting to know them, the other roo i'll get pics today

I'm so glad they made it safe. They certainly had a long ride to go along with their 36 hour layover. I worry about the tiny ones. Coral went above and beyond (as usual!) to get them to you last night after a jam packed day of the Capon Clinic. Coral, your 3 grandkids are amazingly well-behaved! We should have another clinic and have the husbands hang out and babysit everyone's kids next time instead of fixing lawnmowers :-D I did happen to find a beautiful English Lop rabbit on Craigslist last night. So after we got home from Rinda's we drove to Yukon and got him. His name is Dennis Hopper. I've also got 2 French Lops on hold, they won't be ready to leave their mama for 3 wks. I'm making a Bun Yard because these 3 get 11-14 lbs. As usual I went overboard :-/ But I do love them and will enjoy making their yard safe for them. I've got so many ideas for it. The 3 dwarf breeds will probably always be indoor bunnies. Isn't Dennis adorable????

Dennis Hopper is so cute he could already be the stuffed bunny that peaks over the Easter basket. You should call up the Gund company and pimp Dennis out as a model!

Not sure whether we have roos yet...they're just 4 weeks old but being in town I really would hate to give one away just because he is a roo. I assume a capon clinic might do more than just sterilize the little guys? How does one find where and when a capon clinic is?

they will announce it or see if any that know how to do it could do it for you- i am sure someone will help you out

hi robin! *waves* What are you doing for the duck with a problem foot/leg? Since they are crested, I would recommend putting them both on poultry (or goat, it's cheaper and will "do") nutri-drench for the next several weeks. Do you know if they are boys or girls yet? If they are a pair, please do not hatch their eggs. The crested gene is a birth defect and when two parents carry the gene, it is semi-lethal in that it kills at least some ducklings before they are able to hatch due to the extensively deformed skull/brain/other organ systems. Even if they are both male or both female, I us large you not to hatch any eggs that would come from a crested parent. Even though they survive, they have a much higher risk of neurological problems and I'm sure, after seeing what it actually is that's going on in there, they are in constant pain from the pressure and swelling on the brain/skull. I can show you what I'm talking about it you want to see if for yourself...or you can take my word for it. i am clueless as to which mom they came from, they were a sneaky hatch, the muscovy collected the regular ducks eggs, but i agree on hatching with defects- these two live in the tractor during the day and in a kiddy pool with a sheet in it at nite, i'll get some nutridrench payday, i don't think these guys will freerange with the others- not sure where the poof is coming from- there are 7 other ducklings that mama muscovy is raising, only one has a tiny poof- so all these crested ducks that are sold are actually in pain? sad

yes, I believe so. But they are such strong creatures, they go on as if nothing is wrong...they just don't know any different.

I believe the only way for them to come from two not - crested parents is if the parents were closely related to one another. Either that or you have a crested drake sneaking it to your girls.
