***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok, so what's everyone's favorite tabletop incubator? I'm trying to stay under 300 for incubator + egg turner. Right now I'm looking at the hova bator genesis 1588 but I have zero experience incubating. And it actually kinda terrifies me. Seems there's lots of things that have to go perfectly to get it all right. But I may be ordering some hatching eggs this fall so need to face this fear and probably test it out with less expensive eggs first. My husband thinks we should look on Craigslist but I'm a little anxious about possibly buying a broken one. Opinions anyone?

I'll sell you my Brinsea with the turner for $100. It still works like new, It was like $280 2 summers ago. Hatched a lot of awesome chicks in it :)
PS The $280 was including the turner and shipping.

I have one from Tractor Supply, forced air with auto turner. The hardest part is keeping the temp regulated...the turner adds about 5 degrees, so when you go into lockdown, you have to adjust, which is tricky. I've found my basement is the most consistent. But, if you clean it well, it works pretty well. I've hatched 5 of 8 duck eggs, 12 of 18 chicken (some were shipped). And that includes ones I took out along the way (non-fertile). That's about as good as my broody hen did. She had a few non-fertile ones too.

I want the Brinsea...any of them, lol. But, I'm afraid of spending the money. And, when/if I want to hatch separately for breeds, etc., I can't justify multiple Brinseas, but I can the styrofoam ones. So. I plan on buying another inexpensive one to use for lockdown and maybe more as I go along.

FYI, roosters run with my layer flock, so those eggs should/could be fertile. If you want some cheap ones to try out an incubator, let me know.

Here are the two sweeties I got of craigslist, Beauty and Flower. There aren't any cute pics of beauty because she was very upset that flower was making a lot of noise in the crate on the floor. They aren't as tame as my other two, but just too pretty to pass up!

Check it out! Dusti took some chicks to POOPS for me but there wasn't a taker for some of them, so she gave them to a neighbor. She sent me this pic of one of them. Soooo pretty... I'm such a proud chicken gramma!
