***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ashtree... I have Hovabators...three. I use one set as a hatcher and two for incubating. Like Betsy said...you just keep a close watch on the humidity . I add water when I add eggs or candle a set.

MadamMim...what breed are the Black ones? Are they Anconas? The red in the comb and wattles is a clear indication of reaching point of lay. Do they squat for the cockerel?

Robyn....can you reach the rail to set him close to his mother. Once he learns his place, he should be able to roost with the flock.

he's running with the gang this morning, i guess jumping on mamas back wasn't the best choice...

We have 4 hens and 3 roosters right now. Had a few others off and on.

NanaKat- I have one Ancona (Mynie) and one Black Minorca (Harriet). I also have a GSL (Rhonda) but she is nowhere near as red as the others. We dont have a rooster so no help there either. They've been checking out the nest boxes but nothing serious. I guess I just need a real lesson in patience. Thanks for the reply.

I've been freezing my garden cukes for 2 years now, and this year I finally had the bright idea to try and freeze them whole and see if when they thaw they are still good to eat. They actually work better that way. Awesome so the only prep work I will have to the cukes is putting them in the freezer bag

You guys cross your fingers for me... the eggs from Ella, my CL, will start hatching this week. At least, I hope they will! Since Orlando already had an established flock, Einstein, my CL roo, pretty much claimed Ella, as if he knew she was for him! There's a big chance her chicks will be pure CL, but they could also be EEs that would lay greenish eggs from Orlando (SFH) or olive eggs from Stratus (white Marans). I'm not sure how dark Stratus's overlaying pigment gene is.

So wish me luck on rooage! Or wish me luck on finding homes for what will surely be adorable EEs!

So what are you hoping for? Sorry Im so confused, you want CL right? And my last question (because I seem to have a lot) CLs lay green eggs?

So, I finally finished my silo coop's run. It is not predator proof, but the coop itself is. They've got an automatic coop door, so most days, they'll hang out in the run til I get down there. Then, they'll free range for the rest of the day. So far so good.

And, my two little SFHs are doing great. I still have them inside or in my garage most of the time, but they get play time outside. Yes, my son left the loft door open.

Tomorrow morning, I'll spend time renovating the Craig's List coop...til it gets too hot.
