***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My next door neighbors have been losing a lot of young turkeys to some kind of sickness . I have six young turkeys an two adult turkeys , is there something I need to be on the look out for? The only thing between us is a field fence.

Is this a bug problem and how do I cure it ? Some have bare spots on their bums.

That looks more like overbreeding to me. Do you have an amorous rooster?

That doesn't mean they don't have mites or lice, though. Check around the vent for tiny critters to tell. If you see anything moving, and mites are pinprick sized, or if they have what looks like dust caked on the feather shafts, they likely have bugs.

cocciodosis seems to be particularly bad this year. Don't know if it is a turkey thing as well as chicken thing...

Well, I think I'm ready to rehome Beauty. I'd love to keep her, but she really just isn't happy as an indoor chicken. She's obviously never really been handled before and just isn't adjusting to indoor life.
She's the Sumatra (or Sumatra X, not sure) on the left. Very pretty with the black comb and dark wattles.
Her wings have been clipped by her previous owner (though, I'm sure she is a very strong flier otherwise, so I can't really blame them).
Quarantine ends the weekend after next. I will be separating her from Flower then, and though she can stay indefinitely, she'll be so much happier outside.

Where did you say you live?

OKC/Moore area. Will meet within 30 minutes of Moore.

Well drat. I would rehome her for you, but I'm north of Tulsa. There are a bunch of peeps in the OKC area, though.

@Ksane
   maybe you'd like her?? she is beautiful!

I think she just needs more time to adjust, it's only been a week. It takes chickens a couple months to settle in before you see what they're really like. Taming takes trust and she's not going to trust you yet.
