***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Does anyone sell hatching eggs in the tulsa area? I'm pretty sure my hen is going broody. She spent the night on her nest, and only came out to eat this morning, then went back. Only problem is she's sitting on one wooden egg...haha. If anyone has some, please pm me! Thanks!

I have an EE pullet that just started laying a little over a month ago, she lays olive eggs, however she only laid like 4-5 eggs and has not laid another egg in over a month, is that normal for a pullet to start laying and then stop. Is there something wrong maybe. She is healthy active and eats and drinks just fine. Just has not laid an egg for some time now.

It is not unusual at all. The heat index causes many birds to slow down or stop laying. A clutch of eggs can be 5 to 8 for a beginning pullet. When it gets cooler, she may begin again or depending on age could begin to moult. Many breeds do not lay while in moult.

Fertility is lower when temperatures reach the upper 90s. Even if you could get eggs, the hatch rate could be lower due to the outside temperatures.
I have several hens sitting on empty nests right now. It is cooler inside than outside so I've not tried breaking them.

3rd litter was born this afternoon, I think 8 so far, not sure if she is finished or not, she was taking a break eating her sprouts though.

You are most welcome.

Hope everyone survived the Labor Day weekend and are having a great week.
We got 1/2 inch rain and 3 inches of Lightening! Had a tree hit in the back pasture.

Quail are hatching in the incubator today and tomorrow. I've started boiling quail eggs to pickle...such prolific layers.

We are beginning the fall calving season. One on the ground so far and about 20 to go before the 1st of December. Hopefully they will all domino on time. I'm not looking forward to the winter weather predictions of cold and wet. The barn stall is prepped with heat lamps and straw bales just in case. I'd rather not have another calf in the kitchen for a week this year.

Hey all, long time no post. We were wondering if anyone might be interested in a kitten or two. We have some that need to find good homes. We have two girls and one boy that are almost 9 weeks old. We also have an 8 month old girl. They are all tame and love to be handled. We just can't afford to keep them what with our addiction to chickens. Can anyone help? PM if interested. Sorry but we can't drive very far. We live in the Blanchard area.

i wish i could take kittens, but our dogs don't tolerate cats...:(

we got 4 inches of rain here, the ducks are thrilled with the puddles
spent the morning setting up net over the main run, the guineas have been harassing the chickens too much, so they won't be in there as soon as i get it done- they will hop in there in the afternoon just to chase them... sheesh..love those silly guineas, but they can be ornery!

My hard work of the last few days- I know it's early to be thinking about Halloween but I found this blue formal shift at NBC for $6 on Monday and the juices just started flowing... the cape is made from a sheer curtain panel from Walmart. Whole outfit costed me about $30 to make, including the wig and crown. She is thrilled! And disappointed she can't wear it until Halloween. ;)
