***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Pics as promised!!!!
Okay guys i got somewhat profile pics of all six littles this morning! They are so stinkin cute! I knew when I walked in Atwoods and heard little peeps I was in trouble and so did my hubby lol!
These first three look a lot alike but their sizes are just slightly different

I got two pics of this one below because its feathers growing in on its wings, seem to be pointing outward, do yall think she might be frizzle? Either way so far i think shes my favorite!

you can see her wing feathers a lil better in this one

and I got these last two, I'm not sure what color to call them, I guess yellow?

Hopefully I didn"t pick out all little boys! got their last six, one week old chicks, I know they are bantams and I thank you all for letting me know I'm likely dealing with mostly Cochins. I did some reading last night and got even more excited! everything I read said they are docile and make good pets so when they get a little bigger hopefully i can give one to each of my 4 girls as a pet and then have a pair left for myself :) my oldest daughter says I'm a chicken addict but I dont care look at their cuteness, Still trying to figure out my chicken math so the hubby doesnt realize we now have 16... shhhh... So anyways what do yall think? Also while i'm here i'd like to ask about their brooding temp. I had the brooder temp at 90-95 when i got them home but they didnt do well in the heat they went to the side without the light and huddled so i gradually lowered the temp until they started moving around more and they seem to prefer it closer to 80 or 85. is that normal for one week olds? I know i need to keep the temp consistant and i realize they are covered in feathers a lil more than other baby breeds their size but thought maybe someone here might have some advise. are they going to be fine if i leave the brooder temp so low? this is my first attempt at raising from this young the last time they were a month old (i'm working my way down so in spring i will try to breed a few, working with 1 day old chicks seemed scary when I saw the littlest littles in atwoods.) :) Any ways, yall shower me with your experience please! I love hearing all your stories and I learn so much from all you guys and your experiences, I love to hear what yall have to say about these gorgeous babies!!!

There are two for sure roosters, and two more maybes. The second black one and the first yellow. I hope I'm wrong. The yellows may actually turn out to be porcelain duccles! I say that because of the feather tuft on the hock on the male. They are feather legged like cochins, and a frequent option in feedstore bantam bins. The curly feathered chick is probably a frizzle cochin roo.

You are right on with adjusting the temp until they "act" comfortable. Way better gauge than the actual temperature. I'd say 85 is fine for 1 week olds as long as they are in a draft-free coop or brooder

X2 I was afraid to say so but I think you also got the roosters left at the end of the bantam bin

Bantam Cochin frizzle rooster. Never shown any signs of aggression. I have way too many roosters and thought this guy deserved a chance at life at another place than going through freezer camp with the rest of the boys.

I thought I saw lots of boys too, but didn't want to say anything since I have no experience w/ that breed.

Got on here earlier and read atwoods has chicks. Immediately loaded up the kids to go look (that's what happens when my husband works late lol) and came home with 4 new chicks. 2 are marked pullets and 2 were assorted bantams. Owasso has some awesome bantams by the way!! I am hoping you awesome chicken people will be able to help me identify 3 of the 4.

This is one of the pullets I have no idea what she is. I'm thinking EE she was the only one that color in the bin.

and a picture of my barred rock girl. Couldn't leave her out lol.

I totally thought the same thing about the two you are talking about the first black one too.. they just seem to stand differently... :( ill love them either way guess we will just have to wait and see as long as I end up with one hen i'll be alright :) would be nice if I could get one of each color! Do cochin bantams crow like other roos when they get older? Prolly a dumb question lol! Well if I end up with all boys ill just have to get sum already sorted girls in the spring to make up for it I guess I was aware I had no idea what to look for but I did want feather footed friends and they only jad six maybe 7 left... arkansas state law requires you buy at least 6 and I was just too afraid to grab the one day olds I could have waited a week but its soooo hard once you see them!
@MrsDickey understands I think lol; thats what happen to me I found out atwoods had some and I was on my way just to look and then couldnt turn away... one day maybe ill learn but I doubt it. (Sigh)
They are still doing good in the brooder at 85 active and messy of course. Hopefully things continue to go well and maybe ill end up with a girl or two... if not I may just end up having to rehome a few of them. Guess I could have asked what to look for before I left but everything was foggy all I could see was feathers!!!!
