i would go with zimectrin gold paste for worms, tylan for respiratory or gallimycin- assuming respiratory on it- but since you said she is thin i'd treat for worms-

Daughter and I are still out of town, but I thought I'd check in. My MRI showed a grade 2 MCL tear. That means at least 3 weeks in a rather large leg brace but NO SURGERY. Woot!

I'm missing my chickens--especially the new chicks. I can't wait to see how 5 days change them!

Woohoo! I mean it still sounds like a bummer but no surgery is great! And I'm loving these chicks, may have to get some eggs from you if your girls pick up laying. I'm really wanting more LF colored egg layers. They'll be free ranging with SFHs and I need to be able to tell the difference in SFH eggs and others Oh and I'm excited about Monday! Can't wait to see this grey silkie. Honestly, I can't wait to see them all. I'm like a silkie addict.

As far as gapeworms, I know they are rare but I'm pretty sure I had a pullet with them this fall. I like valbazen for treatment and the important thing to remember with gapeworms is you worm every 3 days for 10 days or so (sketchy math there) but it worked for me. There's a thread here with lots of useful info. I also didn't eat any of the eggs for 2 weeks after the last treatment.

Can you tell a late quitter by candling? My gut tells me those eggs are dead, but I "rescued" them from the cold on Tues and they have been in the warm bator since then and aren't smelling yet. I've candled and don't see any obvious movement

Sometimes. I give the egg a little "twist" back and forth and watch closely for movement. Usually from the bottom of the egg I can see it better at a late development stage. Like when you are pregnant and you press on your belly, then wait a second to feel a reflex of them kicking back.

This guy looks awful today- I was a little freaked out at first but someone on a FB page suggested bite or sting. Since there are beehives near his pen I'm going to do a wait and see before I try treating. It's definitely not respiratory. Eye is swollen shut, but eyes, nose, and mouth are clear. Breathing is clear. Ear is swollen shut but looks normal what little I can see. He acts a little off but not as bad as I would expect if this were an infection.

I believe I read somewhere that a chicken can have up to 1/2ml of children's Benadryl every 24 hours, if it is allergic (like sting) it should help w/ the histamine reaction. I'm not sure where I read it, it is just in the back of my mind

If you don't see an obstruction in her throat, and she doesn't respond to antibiotics, consider treating for external parasites and then putting the hen back on antibiotics.  External parasites are hard to see sometimes, and they can tax the health of the strongest birds.  Treat with Ivomec pour on.  I've seen underweight birds gain weight quickly after the little blood suckers are banished.  A bird weakened by external parasites may develop a respiratory infection, but once the little vampires are gone, Tylan 50 will usually clear the infection.
