***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well, I just got home with a whole tub full of cookies... chocolate and toffee chip, black and blueberry thumbprints, shortbread, mexican wedding cookies and pecan tarts. I still have to make fudge. I'm exhausted and my legs and back ache. It was GREAT!!!!!

I still wish I could have made it to Shawnee to see everybody and buy beautiful chickens. I hope everybody had a wonderful time!

I was not feeling at all well Friday or Saturday--something similar to the respiratory stuff everyone is getting here, but started in India. Still coughing, but got a good night's sleep last night and actually feel a bit better. It always takes me quite awhile to get over this stuff, even with antibiotics and Prednisone right away--sometimes takes two and three rounds of each. Not going to happen this time!!

An exceptionally good-looking threesome of kids, not to mention the parents! Was good meeting all of you. I hope you enjoy your silkies, Kellie and family!

Did you find the call ducks?   There were several in cages.

Yes I did brought this little girl home

Does anyone know if results for the show have been posted yet? A friend told me that a RIR won best of show LF. But I didn't even see any RIR there, which was surprising. Did I miss them somehow? Unfortunately I had to leave early to meet up with family in OKC.

BTW, it was great to meet Lonnie and Rinda! As it turns out, I already knew their faces from the Coweta auction. It's good to put a name with a face.

It was nice to meet you, too! You know, I don't recall seeing RIR either- but I didn't go down every row so I assume I just missed them. I did feel like there were fewer Large Fowl there than last year overall- anyone else notice that?

Here are some quick shots from my cell of my birds from Betsy. There was a blue pair and a black pair I picked up from another breeder, too. But Betsy's paints are just fantastic! They are adorable, and all settled in to their quarantine pen! The marans I picked up are in the quarantine pen behind. Everyone is going to get a good looking over in the next few days. I have already picked out several of the Marans that are going to be sold right away.

Why do some roosters turn out to be mean? My friend had one who kept on attacking her kids. I've had a few in my lifetime, but really not that many.
Is it the breed?
I've had Rhodies, White Leghorns, Ameticanas, Buffs all a big mix on my former ranch. Here and there some grumpy females but overal I haven't had big issues with my chickens.

I don't know, but of all of mine, I only have one mean one...El Jeffe, the Blue Copper Marans. He's beautiful though, so he lives in his own coop with a couple ladies--no free ranging for him. He charges me any chance he gets!

My husband and I were wondering the same thing. We had one barred rock when our son was little that was horrid but we have six of different kinds and none of them are mean at all now. We love our roos.
