***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi fellow poultry enthusiasts! I'm back. Although I never really left. Side-tracked, blind-sided. Life is what happens to you when you make other plans. Be flexible and you won't break! Will enjoy being part of the most fun group ever. Rinda got my SFH so I'm just enjoying having birds for fun these days. Ha Ha I got the roo that was at the City of Tulsa Animal Shelter! He finally started crowing here after 4 days. The Ladies have been resting his charms but its' only a matter of time. Missed you all. Am happy to be back along the chicken folk!

Glad you're back! A friend of mine picked up two of your nearly white SFH to be egg layers, a chicken customer took the curl-toed girl, and this week another friend picked up Elvis and the red and white crested boy along with 3 girls to add to her SFH line. Yay! So I'm down to what I needed. Got a few extra cockerels to dispense of still. Right now they are living it up in the bachelor pad pen.

Cathie Suuuuueeee! You could come freeze your tuckus off with us at the Coweta auction Friday! Coral will be there and Dusti might be there, and Rinda might come visit.

Anybody else chicken junkie enough to be there?

Hi folks! Hate to pop in simply "wanting" something when I haven't been here in about two months, but I'm in a bind!

Ya know I was in Arizona for treatment, have been home since late October and so far am doing really well. I'll return for a follow up PET scan the 27th of this month & I'll know if the treatment worked.

Well, while I was gone/recovering done of my pullet's turned into roosters & I have tooooo many.

So, someone please direct me to a detailed link on butchering our explain what I need and how to do it!
I have a Buff Rock boy that's mean as hell. A Cuckoo Maran that breaks my heart to kill, but he's too rough on the girls, and a roo that showed up out of nowhere.

Hugs to all of you! Hope you had a Merry Christmas & your New Year is going well.
Welcome Back!!!
For butchering older birds, I skin them. It makes it a whole lot easier and faster. The two biggest issues on butchering either way, is to make sure you don't puncture the digestive system and you remove the oil gland at the base of the tail.. Once you are finished, wash the bird in cold water, and let it rest in the fridge for a minimum of 24 hours before you freeze the carcass.

Welcome back to all our wandering Okies, glad to hear from you guys.

My niece was over the other day she didn't like her winter hat, she wanted a purple and pink sparkly princess hat, so I went to Hobby Lobby to find some yarn and this is what I ended up making, it is a surprise, but I need to figure out a superman hat for her brother before I can give it to them.

you must be the favorite Aunt! That hat is adorable.
For Superman...a diamond pentagon with a yellow center with a red band and then finish the skull in blue. then go back and embroider in the "S" ...working from memory here.....

...had to go check it out.

Or...make it all Blue and make a quilt patch to attach to the finished hat.....]
I wish we still had little girls....our granddaughters are all grown-up. One of my grandsons still wears the hat I made two years ago. I'm going to have to make him another one soon.

This is a beautiful hat!!!!! It's not my chickie hat, but then, not all hats can be. I need to remember to wear the chickie hat to Coweta this Friday.

Those who expressed interest in helping Chandra Hopping and her family after the fire, a GoFundMe page has been started! She and I both have sick kids this week but when we are well I will ask her about help with clearing out the old and possibly a volunteer building day to put together some new structures.
