***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We have a 25 week old pullet who has been sick with green colored (started out bright yellow) diahrea (sp?) for 2 weeks. We have taken her to 2 different vets in Norman (we're in Chickasha) and she has not gotten help except we know she does not have parasites or worms. Her comb is dull, she is lathargic, not interested in food. We don't know what is wrong but we know we are going to lose her if we don't get help soon. If anyone knows a good chicken vet, we will take her there wherever the vet is. No one knows what is going on and she is going downhill. We know we are going to lose her if she doesn't get good help soon.

Any help would be soooo welcome. Our hearts are just breaking!

Call to make sure that an avian vet is in.
They are located North off of 240, last exit west of the 35 intersection. There is a Home Depot and Braums there.

Does anyone have the number to the state department that handles necropsies? I think the website has the wrong number listed. I've lost 3 young birds, necropsied 2 but my results were inconclusive. So I'm wanting the 3rd picked up. It's in the freezer now, is that where it should be?

@YardBirdMom that is good news!!! There are a million you tube videos and websites.
Thank you very much!
Hello YardBirdMom: Glad you're doing well. Video's of processing poultry looks easy, but for a newbie, it'll probably be somewhat slow. Good thing you don't have many to work with this time. Main thing is to get the water hot enough ( about 140-150*F) to dip the poultry in a few time to loosen their feathers for easy plucking. Have Fun !:cd
Thank you too! I got lucky, this time. Ran into a gal & fellow that buys/sells all kinds of critters and he purchased those roo's! Yay!
Welcome Back!!! For butchering older birds, I skin them. It makes it a whole lot easier and faster. The two biggest issues on butchering either way, is to make sure you don't puncture the digestive system and you remove the oil gland at the base of the tail.. Once you are finished, wash the bird in cold water, and let it rest in the fridge for a minimum of 24 hours before you freeze the carcass. We missed you too CathieSue...it is good to see you back. Working on setting up the breeding pens this weekend. And we are sorting calves to go to market...Hope there are enough hours in the upcoming days.
Thanks Nana! Maybe come showing when an expert is butchering this newbie could come help (more like try not to get in the way lol) and learn! WB CathieSue! Life simply takes over sometimes

Welcome back to all our wandering Okies, glad to hear from you guys. My niece was over the other day she didn't like her winter hat, she wanted a purple and pink sparkly princess hat....
Thanks for the welcome back! Kassaundra, that hat is adorable! I have a 3yr old granddaughter who lives pink, sparkly things. How much would you charge to make her one? IF/When you'd have time! Would you need measurements of her head?

You should be able to call the regular number and ask about necropsy pickup. If they don't know ask for the people in charge of NPIP, they will know who to put you in contact with. Freezer is a bad idea, can affect the tissue. Can you bag it and move it to the fridge?

Thank you so much! I did exactly as you said and they will here in the next 20 minutes.

They really do exist!

Makes me think of M&M's and Rudy all at once, @Kassaundra

These are from Troubaduo VanCleve's post on facebook.
I'd like to find a pic of Rudy and share it with her on her post.

I need to get a pic of Rudy in his winter sweater, it is green. I didn't make it from scratch I modified an man's sweater, well the front half anyway, I have the rest to make one more from the back and some pants from the sleeves.

Not sure but I thought they were suppose to be refrigerated but not frozen?

Cathie Suuuuueeee! You could come freeze your tuckus off with us at the Coweta auction Friday! Coral will be there and Dusti might be there, and Rinda might come visit.

Anybody else chicken junkie enough to be there?

At this point you might not be freezing! It's warming up nice. I have a date with the grandkids. I hope y'all stay warm and have fun!

Rinda, I'm so happy you have the flock. I'm pretty happy with the few characters I have left.

Cassandra you totally nailed the hat!

I'm hunkered down, knitting and watching DVDs.
