***OKIES in the BYC III ***

hello all!!!

after being gone for ever and ever i am back. at lest for a while.
as some of you know i was pregnant and sick with what they thought was a fibroid but it turned out to be not a fibroid. they still don't know what it is exactly so i have been seeing several specialists including and a doc from OU that specializes in tumors. hopefully its nothing life threatening at this point. i ended up delivering my baby 5 weeks and 1 day early but he is doing pretty well (gassy and cranky but healthy over all). :)

unfortunately with everything that happened, crazy medical bills and on top of it all due to low gas prices my husband got a huge pay cut at work, we have to sell everything we have and move back to colorado.

so i am selling my birds :(

Congratulations on your baby. It's great that he is doing well. I am so sorry for your circumstances. I know what's it's like seeing Dr after Dr and then the bills. I am really interested in the goose , polish and partridge rocks. What color is your silkie roo? My gese are my biggest babies.

I had more gandes and bought 4 more females and still need one more. I will give her an excellent home. I can pick u up and u can come see for yourself how tame and how much they ar loved. PM me, if it's somthing you'd b interested in. have three partridge rock hens now and was going to get more. I have 2 polish pullets, one bantam and one large fowl. The dark cornish might be of interest too. I don't need roosters, as I am rooster poor. I would like another silkie roosr, however, as long as he isn't black, since I already have 2 blacks and hav beeen thinking of rehoming one. So sorry you have to give up your birds, I'm from Colorado. What pat mare u from? sorry about mistakes I don't have time to correct. Your goose will be absolutely spoiled here, as will the hens. Mine climb all over me at feeding time. My son wants to come get me and move me into a mother in law apt. and I can bring all my CRITTERS. He's horse poor as they all have their own horses and more to boot. But I imagine I'll stay here unless my health fails more than it is. The only chickens I have that I feel bad for are my young roos, because they get locked up when they start on the hens and pulletsm So far I've rehomed all but the few new ones. I did make a bigggg pen, er hubby did, for them so they don't feeeeeeeel as bad as it uswed to for the others. I always talk too much

sounds great! I'll pm u!

so, i need some advice. the starlings are eating everything i put out for the chickens. i want to get a bb gun and shoot at them to scare them off. will my chickens think that the bb's are a new delicacy and eat them up? seriously. stop laughing!

I feed twice a day, putting only enough feed in the morning for the chickens to eat then around 4:30 enough for them to eat again before roosting. Hanging CDs to blow in the wind hasn't helped and DGibson said the owl with a moveable head wasn't a deterrent either. I bang on a water can any time I think about it and that scares up the flocks of starlings and sparrows temporarily. The starlings have figured out how to sneak into even the pens covered in 1 inch chicken wire. I'm thinking about getting some rubber snakes and strategically placing them. We are using rat shot in the 22 also.

Oh, and I candled a sampling of eggs from the incubator that spiked...surprisingly most of them had veins. In a few more days, I'll candle all of them and remove any not progressing.
That's great. Hopefully they all make it. I'm still bad at candleing, but I can recognize the blood rings when they die. Hannah, started laying again, so her kids are going to go in the new growout pen, Glenn is building. Leah is setting again. A few of her eggs are 10 days old, so I hope they hatch. They are all hers except a couple from Hannah. They were bred to Abraham. This should be interesting. Rachael will be wormed tomorrow and then I'll give her a few days and put her in w/Abraham. Her kids are getting big, but she hasn't started laying again as of today. Poor Naomi, pooped in her nest and lost all her eggs but one. I guess she thought the cage I had her in was too small. She's a great mom though. I feel bad for the chick being raised alone. I still have Buffy and Splish w/chicks, but they're starting to get big too. Splish shared a nest w/ Buffy and everytime I separated them, they would freak, so it wasn't a real good hatch as they would take the eggs back and forth between them. Well, that accounts for the 5 girls I got from you. Leah lays huge eggs. Is that normal for the breed. The others aren't jumbo like hers. I'll pray u have a good hatch.
