***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@Poco Pollo
, I love the letters! What's even cooler is I know some of your animals and your place. I was there the day you *got Hercules from Kass :)
Man....I'm going to be bummed when Kelly's chicken goes home and there's no more letters

You said it best for all of us! I'm enjoying the camp letters too and even share them with the hubby.
He suggested putting them together in a story book.

We have a doctor appointment in OKC today and will go by the farmers market to purchase our cold crop plants....the weather will be perfect this week for getting in the spring garden...I usually have peas etc planted by now.

There were 12 chicks hatched yesterday and two more early this morning....will post some pictures soon. Little Miracle is sure growing too.

My little Cochin has been back with the others for a few days now, seems to be all good. TLC, ACV and bedding were my only changes. I'm happy, but sad that I lost the first two.

I found all my "wants" in hatching egg form. I'm eggs-cited to see what the next month holds chick-wise. If all goes my way, next year will be so much fun!

I am starting to get some Double-Laced Barnevelder eggs (black roo over blue and splash hens) and some Olive Egger (Blue MaransXIsbar) eggs...not many, mind you, but if anyone is interested I have 'em! ;)

Yay! Did things pan out with Kim, the lady with the orpingtons?

I am starting to hatch out some chicks for this year. This is my first year with Black Jersey Giants. And I was wondering if anybody could help me figure out an easy way to tell the difference between my Black Jersey Giants and Cuckoo Marans as chicks.

I have and have responded to your thread.
Well, my dog is avoiding the chickens for the most part. The training collar has worked wonders. She walks the other way when she sees them coming. Today she found a nest of baby rats and ate 4 of them. At first, I thought she found a squeaky toy. Both of my kids were impressed. What a great dog!

Does your cuckoo line have feathered legs? That would be one way. Cuckoo chicks will have a white dot on their head, while JG will be solid black. You'll see once you get your first hatch, I think it will be easy.

The new hatch...some banty babies and large fowl...That is little Miracle on the left He gets to stay with the newest banty babies because he is still just their size.

This morning's sunrise....the bull pen and the equipment

I think this plum tree is going to be the first to burst into bloom. The almond behind it is just beginning to have buds swell.

I have a broody, going to give her some eggs. I need to check w/ Country Hatchery about muskovie chicks, when her eggs hatch I'd like to give her some muscovie to raise. They will pinion them prior to purchase, and I'm hoping if raised w/ a broody chicken mom they will integrate into the flock well. I am only going to keep 3, two females and a male, the chicks they raise will be off to freezer camp at 12 wks old.

Be sure and order enough of them. I got 6 from them a couple of years ago and they were all drakes
