I've been meaning to mention, that I have three hens, who have gone broody on my recently. Two of which, I'm closely monitoring the eggs in their nests. One of my black sex links, has been trying to be broody, for a while, but the others were gifting her too many eggs. Soon, she had 25-30 eggs under her, she'd roll a few of them, into the next nest box over, and start again. Now, I have marked 6 eggs, to leave under her. She accidentally abandoned one, but picked up another, the first night, and a turkey hen, keeps giving her a gift per day. I pull the turkey egg, every day. My black frizzle and one Cuckoo Marans went broody, last Friday. I took the eggs from the Marans, Friday, but Saturday and Sunday, I let her keep what she had under her. And, I think I'm going to just let that cage, and broody, run their course, for 3 weeks. The Frizzle, was allowed 6 marked and dated eggs, and she is doing a pretty good job of caring for them. I'm going to see how this goes.
I picked up my one turkey, out of the 18 eggs, that I sent to the hatcher, that I now believe that I can't trust. Five of those, are due to hatch this week. We'll see what happens. But, I got one, out of the first 12, so, I'm not overly optimistic.
