***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yeah last time I went to Okcounty courthouse they confused the crap out of me but I'll try it again.

Maybe I'll find someone down there that knows what they are doing this time lol

Try the Oklahoma Tax Commission...the address should be in the OKC phone book. You can get a SMX Exempt Sales Tax (no fuel) card which is an "agriculture exemption card intended only for the purchase of items used directly on a farm or ranch in the production of agriculture products". We use ours when purchasing feed and things like supplies for building fence, coops, barns...etc.

We lost all but one hen in our flock to a dog attack yesterday. After listening to the kids cry the entire evening and watching our brave lone survivor just stay curled up in her coop the whole day and not even eat we got up early this morning and made our way to our favorite chicken breeder. Picked up two 18 week old gals and two little babies to rebuild our flock.
We were a bit worried Chimi would peck at the two new girls but she seemed delighted when she saw them next to her pen got right up and out of her coop to go day hi, and within a few hours they were exploring around the yard together with no issues. I'm keeping an eye on them but she just seems happy to have a flock around her again.
The two little ones are penned next door until they're big enough to join the big girls.
Chickens are happy.Kids are happy. Mama is happy!

It was so nice to see you again, I'm glad your new girls are settling in well and getting along with your lone hen! You'll have lots of eggs again before you know it! In case you didn't know Chimi will probably stop laying eggs for about 3 weeks. A scare like that will do it. But she'll start up again eventually!

I forgot to check if the Langshans had legbands on- some of them did from when I was sorting out girls from boys- you can twist them off like taking a key off a keyring, or use wire nippers and just clip them.

Ive been considering a tax card too. I have just the poultry at the moment, but have been wondering if getting a farm tax card would be worth the trouble. I do have farm equipment and have had various livestock now and again. I already have a veterans tax card for being 100% disabled but a farm tax would be easier for some things. Just don't know about the tax paperwork.

Inside the Courthouse = Go to the County Assessor's Office. Should be several very friendly Clerks at their desks who will assist you, and enter you into the farm system on the spot via computer. Happy farming.

Lost one of my calico Cochins today:(

So sorry! You remember the Brahma roo I bought last year from you? Hubby shut the chickens up about a month or so ago and somehow "Bill" & 2 hens didn't make it in. Found him & a hen in our water trough. We were devastated, honestly, I was furious with myself for not closing them up.

Well so far "Okie" Bigalow, Chicken Gigalo is the father of 13 balls of fluff with wings and beaks!

Congrats!!

Whoops! It is about 12:30 am and our electricity in the area has gone off. Going to light some candles and put a hand warmer in the brooder and wrap the incubators. Then call CVEC to report in.

Can't post this til the power returns.....okay...1:41 am...temp in hatcher dropped to 88, but the humidity remained high enough that chicks are hatching anyway...even two Seramas!
The brooder chicks were comfortable with the hand warmer. Had insulated the two incubators with towels so they only dropped 5 degrees....they will be okay.....whew!

Nana, I'm glad the bators/chicks are okay. This weather sure isn't making farming, gardening, or chick rearing easy, huh!?

Glad all turned out well!

hello my name is jeff I live in central oklahoma

I dont have any chickens yet ive been gathering info for the last few months.

Welcome to the BYC! Word of warning: Chickens are addictive, there's such a thing as "chicken math" & I'll let the "old timers" explain that.... because you see I can't count too good and have NO idea how many chickens I own at this moment :D

Lost 2 smooth silkies babies and 2 almost mature bantam Cochins that were shipped in. They were beautiful! Found my little dog had been in the garage all night last night. She has never killed before! I just can't believe it! We are just sick!

How much do you love the dog?

Sorry for your loss!

So sorry for your loss, that is devastating!

Did you get an opportunity to shoot the dog?! I have zero patience for a chicken killin dog.

I have silkie & showgirl chicks coming out of my ears if anyone is looking for some! Colors are blue and splash and some odd ones from my gray pullet; ages are 1 - 4 weeks. $5 each! Located in South Broken Arrow, I am NPIP certified.

Jeamsrie's chicks are gorgeous--very good quality, and she prices them too low!  Youcan't go wrong.

I really appreciate your kind words Betsy! I tried pricing them a little higher and wasn't getting much interest, and now I'm running out of space. Here is one of my grow-outs I'm hoping to take to the fall shows for reference. Also, @BetsyOK if you're still in need of a cockerel I've got a dark splash that's close to 2 months old that's looking boy-ish.
