***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm so tired of the rain!!! One if my black copper maran pullets was squished in the muddy run. She was obviously trampled by the bigger chickens right by the door. So upsetting when I was going out to check for eggs.

(((((Loriemarler))))) So sorry about your pullet. This mud has just been horrible.

My Wyandotte pen had a rooster that was caked in mud this morning. It looked like he had gotten bogged down in the mud in the trench. So he got dipped in a bucket of warm water outside and carried inside for a real bathing and dry off.
The Cochins are carrying mudcicles on their feet. I'm letting them free range right now so they can trapse thru the trickles down the driveway to wash their feet when they get their corn chops.

Our small upright freezer went out about a week ago...may have been lightening. We use it to store meat until we need to replenish the kitchen freezer. So, we didn't find it until all the meat thawed and began to spoil....really tight seal on that little freezer. We lost the butchered hog and some lamb. Fortunately the freezer wasn't full....but what a waste and a big mess. Guess I need to decide on what brand of small upright to purchase.

Watching the evening news...such flooding in low lying communities....sure hope our BYC friends check in!

Sorry that happened! At our old house we had a fridge in our game room. We kept all the deer meat in it. Same thing happened and we didn't know until it was rancid! I had to empty it because my hubs was pucking in the trash bag everytime he turned to grab the meat. Not fun!!! Blood was everywhere!

That is a crying shame! Poor baby
I'm in agreement & have had enough rain for a while. We need a chance to dry out a bit.

On that note, I hope all of the Okies down south are going to be okay. Looks dire that way.

Can someone identify what type of Bantams these two are? They were part of an assorted trio from TSC.

@NanaKat We have two upright freezers. Had one for 10 yrs, a Frigidare (sp) & the other a Whirlpool, had it about 6yrs. Never had problems from either one. Both are frost free & the Whirlpool has the temp gauge on the door, plus an alarm if the temperature falls below where we set it at.

We've had freezers go bad and Lordy that's a gross mess!

Doesn't seem like this Okie thread is active anymore but just in case, hi, I'm new to the chicken world and have 2 chicks about 3-4 weeks old. One, Dyna, seems to be a silver sebright and the other, Itchy, is still unknown but since its so much bigger than Dyna we think its a full size breed. Hopefully I can get the pics to attach to this message.

Yesterday I found my Bumpers in one of the nest boxes. She never fully recovered from her last illness, and I think all the rain was just too hard on her. I've cried all night, and I'm starting again as I type this. I don't know how I'm going to do without her. It's so hard to believe anybody could get so attached to a chicken, but she taught me that chickens have their own personalities, and are smart, feeling creatures.

RIP Bumpers. I know some day I'll see you again in a far green meadow.

Oh no. @KyzmetteI'm so sorry. Bumpers probably lived the life every chicken dreams of. You loved her so much, and she certainly loved you too. Hugs to you.

I'm leaning Welsummer or Easter Egger on the other one. Hard to tell since the picture is so fuzzy.
