Oh, my hubby just reminded me that the turkey house doesn't have a floor so they could just tip it over and take the turkeys if they were really wanting to.. .padlocked or not haha

Locks only keep out the honest people.  It's enough to worry about the four legged and winged predators, lets hope we don't have to start worrying about the two legged variety.   

Grandma told me if there are feathers on the ground...probably a four footed predator. No feathers ...probably two footed.

Today my canner has been going non stop..turned out 7 quarts of soup starter, 7 pints of applesauce and 4 pints of super hot taco sauce. My recliner us sure feeling comfortable while I rest up to go take care of the birds, collect eggs and move the sprinkler in tha garden.

I have been checking in on this thread every couple of months for a couple of years, but never posted because...well...even though I am an Okie wasn't living in Oklahoma until three months ago. My job relocated me to McAlester, OK this summer. I hatch a big batch a chicks from my flock the end of April. That group has been with a chicken sitters while we were house hunting, settling into our new home, and building coops and chicken runs. We got back a dozen cockerels a few weeks ago (only four are left after some required thinning). We got back to dozen pullets tonight. Our new coop only houses 16 so we again need to do some thinning. We have about several Black Copper Marans pullets and a few Blue/Splash Breda Gueldre pullets that are looking for new homes.

We are happy to have chickens again. Especially with the price of eggs.

Out of curiosity, what are Blue/Splash Breda Gueldre? I will have to look those up.

Even Tulsa allows chickens,just not roos. But the little town of Grove doesn't allow any at all!

As a Tulsa resident & new chicken owner, I looked at the code and do not see where roosters are excluded. 6 Adults; 14 chicks "under 8 weeks", juveniles =NA, total =NA; rooster are also not addressed.
All we could conclude was that if you get a neighbor's complaint someone might come to your door. There are objective measurements for noise pollution level, but I've have been unable to find any mention on this board of a Tulsa residents who has ever had to go through the process with code enforcement on the issue. This is NOT the same, but IS closely related to, "there is no record of Tulsa code enforcement acting oppressively."

I did talked to two different neighbors on opposite adjacent blocks you both have roosters and they've never had a problem. There's no way I would try it in South Tulsa though...

Jeanne, my beautiful blue male from you also has a lot of whitish in his hackles. He's still beautiful and typey, so I'm not unhappy with him, just would prefer solid color.

Gardeners among us...time to spend time grooming your tomatoes for the fall crop. This mean trimming out dead stem and removing the dead leaves. Tomatoes are wind pollinated so cleaning out the dead stuff opens up the vines so new tomatoes can set. Also you will need to tie up the vines so there is support for that flush of fall fruit. The reward for doing this means you get to nibble the ripe fruit you didn't know was hidden there.
Plus, the chickens who follow you on the task get the treats you toss them.
