***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My wife's 6 month old Yorky followed me out to the chicken house this evening. No problem until he started after a hen that was out. I caught the little snot and told my wife that if he did it again I was going to throw him in with a rooster and let the roosters teach him a lesson. She just laughed so I guess she didn't believe me. Evidently the honeymoon is over!

yorky's are terrier-instinct is kicking in- gonna need to work with him

Adorkable, those gunieas look like a pair, going by their wattles! If no one takes them you might want to keep the pair and have chicks or eggs to sell. They are pretty.
i agree- that is a beautiful pair and i am so tempted! I agree with Doodle, eggs from them would be a seller

lost Mumbles the crossbeak this week, from Betsy originally- a wonderful roo- odd though- started limping last week, was paralyzed by Wednesday and gone fast- any ideas on cause? He was 4

So sorry to hear about Mumbles. No guesses here.

Only hitting about 50% fertility in my Mottled Orpington pen, even though there are 2 roosters in there, so I went out yesterday and trimmed butt feathers. Those English lines have SO much fluff back there! It was pretty obvious that the feathers and caught poo on both roosters' butts were the problem. So hopefully by next week I will be getting much better fertility in there.

I agree the white guineas may be a pair. The one with different wattles may be a hen. On the other hand, I've had/have lots of hens with both wattles cupped. Does one make the two-syllable sound? They are nice birds--hope someone has claimed them.

Robin, sorry you lost Mumbles. I've given up worrying about every bird that dies without anything obvious, if it is only one out of a pen. Just as with humans and other animals, there are any number of things that can cause death.

@artsyrobin I'm sorry you lost Mumbles. Silkies are often gentile birds, affectionate. Here's a photo to brighten your spirits. Remember the kittens you gave me, Agatha and Therese? They work hard every day at napping, running, playing, and begging for attention. Therese is especially tolerant when our seven-month-old grandson pets her. He loves the way her fur feels, so sometimes he get overexcited and rubs instead of pets. Somehow she know that he's a baby, so she squints but never swats. Agatha stays out of reach: she's not as tolerant as Therese when it comes to affection from tiny man hands.

Hello fellow Okies! I'm wondering, when do you all recommend start incubating this year? I've been somewhat successful last fall, but thanks to my daughter secretly slipping a few eggs in the incubator I had some hatching in december. They are alive and well, just seems like it's tougher on them.

I hatch all year. ;) If I had a choice, I would start incubating mid March. So once the babies are old enough to go outside it will be warm enough they won't need any heat.

Hello! Anyone have or know where I can get some New Hampshire reds at?! I'm searching for some but hadn't found any. Just looking for 5-6 hens and a rooster. Or young ones be fine to! Thanks! Pm or reply here would be awesome

I got mine off of craigslist but haven't seen any more since. They seem a little rare
