Just an update on the poults, (a word which does not pass spellcheck)
lost four overnight night before last, but the two remaining have eaten down half of their feed dish and a third of their water - they are also making bigger poops than before. They are just over a week old- can I feed them tiny mealworms?

Nana, glad to hear the hatching and calving is going well!

Yes you can feed them meal worms, I've seen 3 day old chicks w/ broody moms scarf down whole crickets.

One I my girls just up n died. I was gone n didn't get to look at her before wife disposed of her. Supposed to be a silly meaningless chicken but I like them. They are opposite of my job and I enjoy them. They grow on ya.

Hatch just finished with 24 chicks. A neighbor called looking for Cochin chicks for a friend who is retiring. I had six. $5 a chick will pay for the chick starter I need for the next several hatches. He was happy. His friend lives near Jet and she and her husband have a wheat farm and a few chickens.

We checked fences on the 160 in Prague so we can move dry fall calving cows there for the summer. Only had to fix one small section wher a tree fell....cut up the tree. No damage to the water gaps. Will move the cows tomorrow.
Their steer calves will go to the Choctaw pasture to feast on the early fescue before heading to market. Roger's mother enjoys watching baby calves so after tagging, banding and shots, we will take several spring cow calf pairs....probably in the next two weeks.

Taxes go to our accountant/tax prep on Monday and then I can start the garden...need to get in the onions, potatoes and peas....I'm late getting things planted.

Sorry about that. I felt sorry for mine. Few wanted to go back to the coop at bedtime.

She's still alive, up drinking and eating. I have her in the hospital (a dog crate in the garage). Has some raw flesh so she'll have some major scars. Have to find a name for her now, but scar doesn't seem appropriate for a girl

My grandson took the eggs from another turkey nest (because he was afraid a hawk would get her) and put them under a hen that was inside a coop. Yesterday evening I found that that they had both moved the eggs from inside and made a new nest in the most exposed part of the yard. Both were sitting on that nest. I took one hen, all the eggs, and locked them in a turkey nest box. If she has accepted the nest in the morning, great! If she doesn't at least I've saved the hens to lay more eggs. Hope they'll pick nest boxes next time.

"sustainablog"has some interesting ideas on rocket stoves. I'm going to use one to heat my shop next winter.
I've not gone out but I imagine the baby fruit is gone. It got pretty cold here.
