***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@Poco Pollo and anyone else up for a good chuckle. Those 4 cross girls I got from you are still growing and getting big and meaty. I've been waiting for them to start laying, to cross them w/ my nakeds. Those two that were really big have stayed really big all along, they have tiny and pale combs and I'm sure are Cornish cross. Those two smaller ones (still a respectable size just not in the league w/ Tank 1 and 2) they have bigger combs, but not huge floppy single combs, nice tidy little single combs, I've been pretty sure for a long time they are actually white rocks instead of Cornish crosses. Anyway their combs have been brightening for a week or two so I'm thinking eggs are coming soon. I had not been able to get a good look at them for a week or so, but today I was down checking on the injured chick and noticed them, my wait for eggs may be longer then I expected ................................................. they are boys!!!!! lol lol lol Not Tank 1 and 2 they are for sure girls.

Boys??? Oh no. I was so sure we had four girls in that group. I don't have any other CX right now, as the batch that yours came from are already in the freezer.

I have the two girls, that should get me started for sure, as long as I can get them to the lay point. I was positive they were girls too.

I have a crazy chick story. I have a chick that got a compound wing fx last week. I was off to work and didn't get to cut the wing off until the second day, and it has bones sticking out. Pretty much thought I would have to cut the bones off at the joint for it to survive, but I didn't have time or circumstance for the surgery and figured I would just cull it, but wait until it started getting sick. It is now 1 week from the injury and still thriving, exposed bones and all.

I will put the pics from the amputation in the hidden area since they are graphic.
My 1.5 week old chick injured itself, shattering the larger wing bone entirely and completely exposing the smaller wing bone still intact. The wing was still attatched by flesh, which I severed and removed. It had already started to discolor and get mushy, but still had some blood flow and had not become necrotic yet. The chick is still very active, alert, eating and pooping, running around w/ it's hatch mates and mom. My question is what to do if anything w/ the two bones, the one that is shattered and jagged, as well as the one that is in tact.

Are you going to go ahead and amputate the bones at the joint? Or will the flesh and skin adhere to the bare bone?

I am torn about it. If it is one week out and not infection has set in and I go to cutting on the joint and cause an infection that wasn't there to begin with? The skin and fleshy parts have healed up well, but can not cover the bone area at all. I have seen dead and DRY appendages wither and fall off on their own and when they remain dry even on humans the Dr's leave them to fall off. There is nothing particularly "special" about this chick and is likely heading to freezer camp eventually so I might just let it ride.

More great quilts Kass! I am so excited! I got a trio of cream legbars today! They are about a third grown. I was supposed to get babys but the babys were killed accidently the nite after I spoke for them so the lady let me have the older ones for the same price! They are very pretty and I can't wait to get them grown.My pullet leghorns and rhode islands are laying now. I was surprised the reds started at the same time as the leghorns! I expected them to be much later.

Thanks, I've been on a "spurt" lol. Your chickens sound like they are coming right along. (but pics or it didn't happen, you know the rules!!!!!)

I have regrets today lol!!
Went to Wister, to the sale barn there, and these three boys had some BEAUTIFUL roosters!
I can't tell if they were Partridge Brahma or Partridge Cochins. The oldest didn't know what they were, but I heard one do the screech thing that roosters do (that weird brraaaaaak screech sound).
Golly they were pretty and I have deep regrets about not getting one. Beautiful red and greenish black on bottom
