@jrjoplin how are your chicks doing.

@artsyrobin what new projects are you creating?

@Karen523 What birds are you raising this year?

We sorted 40 heifers this week and the boys are making two trips to the stockyards today. Hard to see those girls go, but our 19 keepers are really great.
The garden is coming along nicely. Still need to get the okra bed ready.

@NanaKat all but 11 that aren’t completely feathered out graduated to the grow out pen last Tuesday. They’re all doing well and wanting access to the full yard but I’m not ready to chase them that much yet.

Im overhauling the gardens this year which is going to entail a little earth moving. Due to the time that is taking and the finishing of the coop expansion I’m growing very little this year. Just a couple of tomatoes and a few other odds and ends. I’ll be supporting the local farmers markets most of the summer.

I haven't done much to my garden this year yet. ( I know it's late already) Just got the tomatoes out last week. My blue berries haven't come back yet. The extra I bought didn't hasn't done anything either.
I have one Dark Cornish hen setting. I moved her to the brooder box a couple of days ago. No incubating this year.

One of the Dominiques escaped the grow out coop. Took me almost an hour to catch it and get it back in. I’m sure it was quite comical to watch and she almost got left to fend for herself a few times. I’ll have to concede that I’m not as quick as a 5 week old chick but I’m not ready to say she was smarter. It may be true but I’m not ready to admit it. Luckily this was before the rain started.

A few more cockerels are identifiable but I can’t complain with the ratio of this order. As it stands I’ve only got 4 clear roosters out of 60 chicks. I’m sure there are a few more but I have to admit I’m terrible at sexing chickens until they’re almost grown. It looks like I’ll end up with a breeding trio of Lakenvelders. I’ll have to research the breed to see if that’s something that will be allowed to happen.

i rescued a pair @NanaKat - the hen is a blind sultan, omgosh, i found another breed to love, so I have eggs under a silky from a breeder, they are so sweet. Other than those I am not doing much hatching, i really need some decent pens first. I have started losing elders, so that the heartbreak of keeping them, my old head hen passed, at 12 years - she had a good life and was quite the character- This is the sultan named Chana and her roo is a silkie/duccle

pretty pair. Sorry about your older hen. My Minorca is 10 now.

Gardens are really wet this month!
My raised beds are surrounded by puddles in the pathways.
Sister has planted her corn three times now....each planting has drowned in the ground.
I don't have my okra ground ready yet either.
Not complaining about the rain....
At least it is easy to pull weeds I. The garden and flower beds!

And a much wetter week this week. But I did pull a lot of weeds.
