I wasn't aware of that are we talking about Doc Henry? I can take one no big deal... so long as I don't have to haul it home afterward.

that is blasfemy.... we only assist others in aquiring what they want most in life.. It just happens to be these beautiful animals who can be used to reduce stress, create laughter on an otherwise dreary day, and feed the family at times.

See we are helping each other...

I've been trying to get everything ready to make the trip down to POOPS. When Bil was home on leave, he decided he wanted to work more with our Buckeye flock to get the coloring just right. We lucked out with a great rooster, but the hens aren't as dark and even as he wants. He did say that I could sell the chicks we already have, with the disclaimer that I can't guarantee the coloring. But they are even tempered, good layers and very cold-hardy. Right now most of the hens have gone broody, making it obvious that we need more nest boxes.

Sometime in the night, the older chicks somehow managed to knock their waterer apart, creating an unholy mess of wet food, wet bedding, and wet birds.

Everyone ended up with a bath to get the ooey mess out of their feathers. Fortunately their younger brothers and sisters in the other brooder managed to look presentable enough for a photo op.

I'll be bringing mostly Buckeye chicks, with a small handful of Black Australorps, and an even smaller handful of Buckeye-Easter Eggers (Rarest of the Rare, very desirable

). I'll also have quail eggs and will be bringing some young adults for the processing demonstration and to donate for the auction.

I have to admit. I was really admiring the large cochin that MJ got to be a broodie.
Many years ago, we had a bantam cochin roo with an attitude. He ended up being my "hands on" learning project for butchering chickens, after he hit me one two many times. I was never sure if it was because he was a cochin or because he was a bantam - but he was mean.

Ooops, I was going to hit quote and accidentally hit report then didn't see a cancel button so hope the go back was the same thing

Anyway, PB, do you think it could have been that it was a He? My cochin hens are the most docile of my chickens.

you have any cochin hens for poops?? my direction for the large birds are EE's and cochins
