***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sometimes frizzles look like they have bald spots in various places on their bodies. It doesn't look "bald" enough on its neck or shoulders to me, to be a NN - but I am still learning about NNs and certainly don't profess to be an expert on them.

Sometimes you get a "curly" out of frizzles. Its always best to breed your frizzles with something smooth as breeding two frizzles will cause "curlies". Theres not really anything wrong with a curly but its not desired by frizzle breeders because they will be somewhat naked and you want a good amount of frizzled feathers without any bare spots. As a rule of thumb silkies don't really make the best frizzled we tried it and they always looked more frazzled.

I didn't get home till after 9:30 tonight and forgot to check how many toes she had this am. Will have to remember to do it tomorrow. Im not planning on breeding any frizzles, I just think they look funky. Just wanted the one initially but donnie went used car salesman on me and I took home 5 chicks lol.

Ugh I've gotta go to the eye doctor tomorrow. I have been 5 times in the past 2 months. For some reason, my contacts keep irritaing my eyes, but there is nothing wrong with my eye itself. I'm seriously contemplating just going back to wearing glasses full time.

Lynn, Roy just left my house and he wanted me to let you know that he had some Pumpkin Hulseys hatch today. I think I spelled that correctly. He is headed to Weaterford now. I'm not sure when he will be online.

He brought my Serama chicks back to me. He's been kind enough to house them since POOPS. Some of those chicks have grown out to be good looking birds. There's a little black and white one that is really pretty and has good stance. I hope it's a girl.

I had to see the orthopedic surgeon again. He has decide to wait on making a treatment decision for another 2 weeks. He wants me to have a nerve study done before he seriously considers surgery. I'm stuck with physical therapy for another 2 weeks until those results are in. I've been going for 4 weeks now and it seems to have helped some, but not a lot. They say that my condition should be corrected with therapy within 6 weeks. That leaves me these last 2 weeks to get the pain under control. I don't think it's gonna happen. I've only gotten about 50% improvement so far. It seems to be getting worse again.

Jordan is doing good after his hospital stay. He is almost completely healed. All that's left is for the small incisions to completely heal. His infection is gone, as is all the swelling. His attitude has returned. I almost miss the quiet and reserved kid that I had the pleasure of spending last weekend with. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have him feeling well, I just like the compliance that I get when he's sick.

Well it been a long day. I woke up at 3:00 this morning for work. The kids are in bed and I think I'm headed that way soon. I'll try to check in later. I read daily, but just don't always get the chance to post.

They told me that I could manage it with Duramycin, and that I didn't need to depopulate. I have not tried honey and cayenne. What does that do if I may ask?

I'm suprised that they didn't reccomend culling the flock. MG is a reportable disease here in the state and I have had vets. down at the Dept. of Agriculture tell me that it is the recommended course.

Another thing that can be used is Denagard, It is formulated specifically for MG in poultry and psudorabies in hogs but is only approved here in the US for weight gain in hogs. It would be called an off label use.

Another suggestion is to get breeds that are not as susceptable to disease such as the Fayoumi, Frizzle or the Naked Neck. All three of these breeds are well documented for their resistance. Just do a search for Disease Resistance in Chickens in your favorite search engine. Most of these studies are in PDF so sometimes they take a few minutes to load up.

Peaches that is great that Doc is officially headed this way and so close.

Shavon I hope that they are able to sort out your problems shortly. I know around here that if mama ain't happy nobody is!!

Lynn and Teach I feel for both of you. I would rather go through back surgery again then go to the dentist!!

Doc Henry, we had some Mad. Games hatch and had a fifth toe crop up on some of them. But it is not like a seperate toe like a Silkie or Dorking has. It is just opposite the toenail on the fourth toe. Reminded me of the "hands" on the robot on Lost in Space. Wild eh?

I am hearing that a LOT on BYC. I wonder why Dr. Herrin's information is different. I mean, he is the state vet with the Dept. of Ag. so you'd think they'd all be saying the same thing.

On that Denaguard, do you know doseages? I can just google it, but wondered if you had any experience with it?

Well years ago we swapped to either totally Naked Necks or birds with NN blood in them so our illness rates are almost nonexistant. But hang on a few minutes and I will get you the dosages. I have them tagged.
