Several weeks ago I thought I lost a little Polish/Silkie cross pullet. I found her under a big stand of sunflowers with a nest of eight eggs. She looked so intent I hated to bother her. I had decided that because of the heat and the fact that we are selling out I would pull her off the nest today. Well I started working on taking the built-in pens down today and while I was out in the back of the chicken yard I heard some peeps. I checked and sure enough there were three Brown Leghorn chicks. I think I will give her another day to see what happens.

Thanks, I really love photography, and especially macro photography. I will probably never get to travel to exotic places, but w/ a macro lens, a descent camera, a little patience and you can get shots that look exotic right from your back yard or local park.​

Got an answer about the bug from the garden forum, they are white lady bug larva, Woooo Hoooo, gotta love the lady bugs!!!!!!!

Great pics!!

My first thought was Lady Bug Lava, but it didn't match the picture of regular Lady Bugs. I see very few white Lady Bugs, but have seen some. I've also seen a couple that were actually irridescent, but haven't been able to find information on them. My garden is now so overgrown--Mother Nature is taking it all back over--there's no telling what one might find out there now!

If they do well I'll more then likely freeze it for the girls, it will be a good veggie source this winter when they don't have much veggies available. I looked up the nutritional values of it (never cared before b/c there is no way I'd eat it anyway) but it is pretty high in a, c, and the b complex especially folates, and micro minerals.

Something else you can do is dry the overgrown pods upside down, spray paint them, put glitter on them or whatever you'd like to do, then hang them on your Christmas tree. My mother belongs the OKC Garden Council and every year they decorate a tree with homegrown things like that. Okra makes great "ice sickles."

Horrible storm just hit. Think it was 1st part of several more coming this way. Had just put about 5 dz chicks in the grow out coop earlier. The poor chicks had an awful 1st day. When I saw the storm coming I ran out. Threw them up top into the rabbit hutch (no rabbits in hutch, it is only used in the grow out pen for chicks). By the time I got to my 2 month old chicks to lock them up in there coop, my grow out coop blew about a football field! The rabbit hutch where the chicks were in tumbled over of course. Killed 1 wellsummer chick. Then the girls & I ran out in the pouring rain & hail & collected the rest of the chicks. Soaking wet & traumatized from their first day outside. Now they are in my living room under a heat lamp. I went ahead & put the big chicks in a dog box since I am scared their cattle panel coop will blow away as the next storm kicks up!!! And of course the guineas are chasing each other out in the pasture as if nothing happened!!!
DH is in Lawton getting our house ready for the renters that are moving in next wk as I am running around the pasture chasing chickens. Oh the joys of farm life!!!!
