I think the marans have the feathered feet and they lay very dark eggs, don't know how they are for friendly. But the Marans don't lay as often they need the extra time to put the dark layer of color on (so I hear, no actual experience w/ them)
Then there is always the opposite end of the spectrum, the current craze the NN which not only is bare legged, but bare necked too!!!!! They are certainly .............................. different looking, a conversation starter, and lay well, do well in the hot and cold (so I read) once you get over the shock of them they start growing on you. I used to think they were hideous, now I think they are cute in an ugly sort of way.
