We bought 200 bales of last years hay early when we were getting rain and we had some left from last year so we have enough to get us started at haying time. The leases where our cattle are located have good water and fescue/bermuda for now. We won't be cutting our fields this year....will graze on the ground what hay is there and then start feeding. We fed over 600 round bales last winter. We need rain to make hay .
Have been stringing out soaker hoses in all the flower beds for the shrubs and trees. The dirt around the house foundation has shrunk and pulled away 1 - 2 inches in places. Since the house has a crawl space we will need to keep the foundation ground damp in order not to have shifting in the structure....so I'll run the soaker hoses at night and get up to change them at 4 hour intervals. Had to do this in 2006 and only had one crack in a brick wall.
The chickens have had their outside time, the water is already iced down. Will check it again before we leave at 1:30 for doctor appointments in the OKC. Our daily schedule has changed due to heat. Used to sit on the deck drinking coffee, do breakfast first and then do chores. Now it's chores first and then a brunch about 10:00 and sip tea in the cool of the air conditioner.
Hope everyone had a great 4th.
