If'n you were to make a windcharger out of lets say a 115amp Alt. like on some trucks and as an option on Dodge pick-ups then you could charge a bank of either 4 12volt or 4 big six volt batteries. The six volts hooked in series as two 12v will give more amps to use.

Then wire the house with low voltage and use LED lights which draw just one volt to operate. Your lights would at least be off of the grid.

Led lights are actually less expensive to run then any other type and have an estimated life of 25,000 hours although they are pricey to buy. I have yet to replace one that is burned out on trailers and I have been putting them on trailers for over ten years. If one is out it is usually a wiring problem.

Hey everyone

Long time no post.. Jason and I got the Bedroom we started working on first part of June nearly complete ..... right now its deciding on wether or not we wanna enclose the closet or not or be creative... ha ha ha..

On a Bird NOTE: We seem to be losing an average of one bird every couple of days to the heat now... So far the ducks seem to be fairing better than the turkeys and chickens.. which is a good thing, maybe they should share their secrets to living with the rest of the homestead.. ha ha

Barn swallow the room looks great!

Had another good egg day, only 3 of my girls didn't lay today. Have I mentioned how much they love those soaked oats. Found some apple flavored electrolytes @ atwoods so they get those tomorrow instead of the ones I have been flavoring with jello powder

I spent the afternoon trying to make friends with my serger. Had the thing 2 yrs & everytime I have tried to use it I want to throw it out the window. Was able to make 6 tote bags out of feed sacks. Then a thread broke. DH is doing damage control on the serger now. He is covered in poison ivy from clearing the fence line & doesn't want to move. So seems like a good enough thing for him to work on.

I feel your serger pain, hate using mine too, actually haven't used it in YEARS just use the tight zig zag on my sewing machine if I need it.

How much oats are you feeding your chickens, that question is to everyone feeding fermented oats. Are you feeding as treat / supplement or main food.
