I had the same thought when I saw the time of your post, donnie.
Glad things are calming down for you. Hope they continue to get better.

Glad to hear things are settling down for you now.

Morning folks! Well we are cooling down a little. Going to be in the 80s. Thats nice but with the humidity and more rain comming today I already have droopy chicxks. They just don't handle this dampness well at all even tho they are in a totally dry place.
Motherinlaw has been up and ate and is back in bed! Already locked me out once! Good thing I keep an extra set of keys outside!
Had another hen go broody. I put her in a very shady cool spot and gave her some eggs. Maybe she will hatch a few. Won't be long till the chicks will be fall chicks so maybe they will do better. Great to see Donnie back on. He told a friend he was working odd hours so I guess thats why he was up late.

I had a young pullet twist her "ankle" and had swelling and limped for about two weeks. I put her in a smaller pen where she d=could still exercise, and set in a floor roost. Made it out of two 12 inch long 2x4 and used a 24 inch length of 2 x 2 as the roost bar. Just cut a 2 x 2 notch in the the 2 x 4s and set the 2 x 2 in and glue or nail it in place.

thanks Nana, was looking at it this morning, it is still swollen and hard- the foot pad- but no bumble- i wonder - should i put her on penicillin to be on the safe side?

Hello Everyone!

Had another muskovey duck setting. Actually her and a guinea were sharing a nest. While we were gone over the weekend, they hatched out several baby muskoveys.
The sad thing is, the duck was ready to move on with her babies and the guinea wouldnt let her. She kept stealing them back. Doc and I had to go and steal them for her
and put them and momma in a pen so they could be protected. First time I ever almost had my butt kicked by a guinea. The guinea is still setting on the guinea eggs, but she
wasnt happy about it. The Duck and Guinea hatched 100% on the duck eggs. I am so happy that our male is taking care of the ladies.

We went this weekend and picked up Doc's two other kiddos from Dallas. So now we really have a house full. 6 kids. Ages: 17, 15, 8, 5, 4, and 2 years old. They will be helping out at the next sale on August 6th. We will have the 2 extras until the 10th of August.

Hope everyone is staying cool. We still have had no rain. Suppose to have a 30% chance today I believe, but will believe it when I see it.

My plan is egg color first, then standard of perfection. Gonna be a long work in progress.

My start came from a couple of gals on this forum who sell eggs in the spring.

This fall I would like to add some different blood lines to mine, but with all of this heat I will be happy if my chickens make to the cooler weather ok. So far I have not lost any of them. My hubby has been watering their area down during the hottest part of the day while I am at work. He is a good guy . He likes the chickens as much as I do.

Maybe we could find a way to trade this fall or in the spring.

If she is eatting, drinking, active and not acting lethargic, you might wait. Are you certain that nothing is broken. Can she put some weight on the foot when she moves around. My little hen would hop on one foot and just touch her toes to the ground once in a while at first.
I try not to give meds if it's not necessary. I want the antibiotic to work when it is really needed and nothing has become immune to it.

Cowboy, thanks for the link! I am sure going to have to get me some of those rare colors when I get back out on the farm. I just don't think they would fit in my town setting right now!lol
