Sooner,
You are more than welcome anytime, however I too would prefer it be a bit cooler when folks come to visit. the last young man that came out was in teh heat of the day and I could not get the birds to come out at all.

I am looking forward to getting to visit with you guys! I will wait till fall when it feels good to sit out under the shade tree & talk!

Found a nest full of eggs in the barn today. It was a perfect neatly dug out nest in a pile of hay that has been there for several yrs. Guess the old dirty hay is better than the stuff I am putting in the nesting boxes!

As I was walking back from the barn I saw the wind blowing our pasture of Johnson grass! I went & got DH to see for himself. I wasn't sure if it would grow or not after the cuttin in June. Never knew I would be so excited to see that our grass is growing. In May I was fussing because the grass grew so fast & thick we were mowing the driveway at least 2 times a week. Doubt I will fuss about that grass again for a long time. So thankful to know that even in this extreme drought the pasture sets on a good creak bed & is surviving!

Love it, I'm going to steal it.

Already saved it! Too funny!

Been sick all morning, but still got some housework done. Hate being a diabetic...some days you don't know what sets off an episode.

Finished wetting down the pens. It's 115.9 already. Turned on the misters in both the teen pen and inside the big hen house. Turned off the industrial fan because it was pulling hot air in from the hot barn. Will go back out to check the thermometer in the hen house soon to see if it is going to make a difference. If not, will turn it back on because moving air may be better. It's a toss-up.
During the mornings, we lay down the plywood sheets to allow the breezes to blow thru the teen pen but mid day, we set them up to block the afternoon sun and the hot winds. anything to help.

Told hubby today that we are going to go ahead this fall and plant trees along the west and south side of the barn along the big hen run. We need the shade more there. He hasn't decided where the new equipment barn will go yet...so my trees can grow and he can figure out that location later. The trees will also benefit the permanent cattle pens he is putting in. He set up temporary pens this year and likes the layout so those will now become permanent.
Always some project on a farm.
