Hi OkiePeeps! I am so sorry to hear about all the losses during this heat - I too am praying for rain and a break in this weather. My birds won't get into the kiddie pool either no matter what I put in it. I try to keep some of their run wet down with a hose dripping most of the day. I just got caught up and now am heading to bed. Good night!

I managed to keep all mine alive today in 111 degree heat, fans are running and water spraying.

Bo i lost four more today checked them at noon all were fine went out at five and four were dead in the shade by water fountain . Still telling the boys we need to go to crossroads agin dont know if its going to workor not, will see you somewhere this fall

Hi everyone!
Hope everyone made it through the day not too jerkyfide. Drank 3 liters of water, sweat 4 liters, feels like skin is going to slough off. Now I know how snakes and lizards feel.

Saw one of those electronic billboards that said "At least we do not have to shovel snow this week." I did not find that very comforting.

So sorry to hear of all the feathered friend lose. Today was a good day here on the homestead. I think the 25cent sprinkler hose is what has saved most of my animals, so far. This heat has sure made me rethink the location of my coop and chicken yard. There are places on my property that have shade all day, will have to reinforce the roof if I do move everything.

Still working the kennels. Must say I hate, absolute HATE, working with chain link. Crap gets all snagged and bent.

I am hoping to have the first one done by Friday.

While I am thinking about it. I am looking to buy hay, round and square bales, going to stock up before winter because there is probably not going to be anything left by this fall. I do not need a lot because I just have the two llamas, but with the dry weather there is not a lot of foliage left for them even to get through the fall, let alone the winter. Any information on where I can get some hay I would be greatly appreciative.

how have we all been????? It's been forever since I've been on! I tried some backreading to catch up but there is way too much! I've only lost one to the heat but I feel like I'm coming up w something new every week to keep other critters away :-/

Just in case anyone is looking there is a young women in Stillwater getting rid of her poultry and setup, she is moving and can't take it all with. Two nice coops. Probably 6-10 young turkeys. About 30 young chickens mostly marans, and a few laying hens (one is a frizzle). She also has a d'uccle rooster who seemed to be a nice enough fella. I've got her email address but lost her phone number.

Robin - I just read the article Cuban posted. In the article is the following statement: The only cure I saw was tolnaftate (the active ingredient in Tinactin). I haven't spent a lot of time looking, but a quick search found a list of products with tolnafate as an ingredient. Absorbine Jr. Antifungal is among them. Some are prescription drugs and others are over-the-counter in local big box stores and drug stores. Let us know what you use and how it works. Maybe heat combined with wetting down pens is creating an environment that's attractive to fungal growth.

Good Morning Okie's!

Looks like I have another possum that has manage to live another day. I'm betting his luck runs out tonight. Sorry to hear about the losses, I know we are all fighting hard to do everything we can. Here's my question for the day, for those of you taking chickens inside. Do you plan to keep them inside until the weather cools off? If not aren't they like people & won't it be harder on them to go from cool to really hot?
