***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thought I'd post an okra picture to go with the recipe. Notice the difference in color. The bright green of the okra changes to a darker green when it's been pickled. Comparison of new with day old canned. I trim the stem end of the okra so you can eat the whole thing.

A coat of paint makes the new coop look shabby chic. All it needs now is the tar paper and either cinder blocks or landscape timbers set in place. I have a pivoting board that holds the nest box lid open for getting eggs and for ventilation.

This side shows the window covers hanging on nails. I decided to make pivot cleats for the little window boards and for the door (Carl, it's now 13 x 14). The door cover has a door latch to keep it open.

And finally the 6 x 12 pen inside the dog pen has been turned to face east. With a shade cloth on top and another connecting the side of the pen to the south wall of the dog pen, there is now a 12 x 12 area of shade...noticeably cooler in the dog pen. I will move in and set u the cooop tomorrow morning while it's cooler.

Have you read anything on making a spray from garlic cloves....supposed to help deter some pests.

You can also make a tea from tobbacco, I have seeds.. Since Nicotene is a great pesticide just keep it in its natural form, place leaves for mulch and make a tea to spray or mist with..
I have heard of Garlic, and several other things it seems it's like the birds everyone has something that works for them.

My brother in law bought plug tobacco and gave me a chunk to soak in water. I think the "recipe" was fill a quart jar with warm water. Add the piece (it was about 1.5 inch diameter by 2 inch) and let soak for several days. Leave the plug in the water ...mix 1/4 cup with one gallon of water in the sprayer.

You can make it like tea with hot water or sun tea. the problem with the Plug tobacco and chew is all the sugar that attracts the bugs. With actual tobacco leaves just make a tea and spray..
