I don't think I would use that blender for human food again!

I used t do that too. Bought an old blnder at a garage sale...

You select bugs from host plants. Whirr in the blender and let culture for several days. The premise is that each bug carries its own bacteria...good and BAD...the culturing allows the bad bacteria to multiply. You then strain the junk out and use in your sprayer on the host plants. It's a 50/50 go. (example: potato bugs on potato plants.)

Carl,
The recipe that NanaKat had for the okra pickles looks very similar to one that I have used for many years. Tell Stephanie that Okra pickles made with that recipe will take a lot less time than Pear butter. You just pack the okra, garlic clove, jalapeno and spices into the jars, cover with the hot brine and do a water bath. No peeling pears for hours on end.

Evening Okies,

Chickens and ducks are asleep. Goats are still making noise, but I'm sure they'll be drowsy soon. All the gardening talk makes me want to plant a fall garden. I'll need to construct a serious electric fence, though, because we have vorpal bunnies and their magic powers enable them to get through chicken wire.

Anyone showing at the Tulsa Fair? I'm not, but I'm always interested in seeing what's on display. I thought about showing my white Chanteclers, but they hate baths and I don't think I can get them bright white without bathing them several weeks in a row.

Joe - I'm happy to hear your good news. I'm looking forward to the Green Country Swap Meet.

City - Is your splash Ameraucanas laying yet? Her sister isn't, but I've got a New Hampshire the same age who is giving me a monster-sized egg every day. I show the egg around the pen every time I find one in the nest box, hoping to encourage the others to lay, but I think I've got a group of late bloomers.

I finally named my dairy goats. I'm going to get name tags for their collars soon, just in case one ever escapes. The largest is Galen = Calm, the medium goat is Milagra = Miracle, and the alpine cross is Naomi = Gentle. I got a response to my Craig's List post about the visiting goat from a guy who lives near us (two miles away) who thought it might be his goat, but a quick check of the facts determined that it's not. His goat is male, gray, and in his pasture. The visiting goat is female, white, and in our yard.

spent the day off and on doing the banty run- it is now 14 x 14, gotta do the coop still, but aiming at everyone in one enclosure- hope its big enough they won't fuss at each other- 1 roo, to 12-15 hens- will that work? mostly cochins with a few nn thrown in...
