Kass, no I didn't eat the datura/jimpson weed. This one is a man made variety that accents the larger bloom. May be just as toxic I don't know. I got my start at a retirement home when I was delivering oxygen several years ago. Its blooms are a whole lot bigger than jimpson weed you see growing wild. And yes it has a spiny seed pod with hundreds of seeds in each one.
The vining okra was an entirely different plant. Its a vine. I will get a pic today. I bet it would be great in a gumbo. Did not taste like okra or cucumber to me. Its really sweet for a vegtable. I left the rind on mine and just sliced it and floured it and fried it. It was good. Like I said I think it absorbed too much of the cooking oil and thats what made me sick,not the plant itself. If I can find a way to prepare it thats really good I would grow it again. It looks just like a cucumber vine and even has the same flower.
I moved chicks around last night and this morning. The nights are getting cooler(in the fiftys) and I wanted them to be a little warmer so as not to look droopy. So I put them in a smaller draft free cage with a brooder light.
The two muscovy hens sitting together both came off and took abath at the same time yesterday,later I found a baby duck that was just days/hours from hatching,don't know if they broke it or someone else did, so I should have baby ducks this week! I guess the hens were trying to up the humidty!Maybe they aren't so smart after all and had to bust an egg to see how far along it was like I do!lol
