***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote:
I'll call you in the AM, we had a football game tonight and it's late now. Not sure I'll make it, it is supposed to be 100+ here tomorrow and I just can't risk losing anymore of the big cochins. It is supposed to start cooling a bit after the weekend so maybe the third saturday I'll be able to bring some large cochins. They will be blacks, mottled split, partridge and maybe some others.

Blessings to you,

Bo

you are not alone they are insperational and medicinal.. I think I spend more time with the birds than people these days. You know its a real problem when you start clucking to yourself though..

yep.... i have to be careful or i spend too much chicken time, not enough art time...

my birds love noodles, spaghetti, lasagna, about the only thing they have ignored is the cheap dry dog food, made a mistake of buying some, the dogs won't eat it, about the only thing that will is the squirrels

Welcome (back?) to BYC OKC III! Always nice to sit on a porch and sip sumpin' cool

We here at the OKC thread really Love our chickens! We spoil 'em sometimes. We treat 'em to special treats. Our girls love cottage cheese - home made from souring milk. We just set the souring milk in its jug out on the kitchen counter for a few days, drain off the separated watery stuff and dump the curds (formed when milk sours well) into a feeding pan, add a little sweet milk or sour cream if you have some that isn't hairy - and serve it up. You don't waste the milk, the chickens love it and they get lots of vitamins, etc. And the really nice thing is that they come to you after only two or three times of "serving" them treats!

Mine lose their tiny minds over corn on the cob. I put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes and then give it to them. My husband made a spike on a board to spear the cob onto so it stands straight up. The chickens see me coming holding corn and they literally start screaming lol!

Thanks for the tips everyone! Can't wait to go buy some extra special treats for them. Hope everyone has fun this weekend, can't wait until I can make my first swap! Guess I'll just have to try to console myself by building something. I'll be waiting to hear what everyone comes home with! Drive carefully.

I give my chickens any left over food. The lady I buy my feed from gets boxes and boxes of old produce and gives it away, so I stock up on that and give them some everyday. They are down right spoiled now. The thing my chickens go absolutely crazy over is fruit newtons. You can get the cheap strawberry kind at DG for like $1.50. My birds would shank you for fruit newtons. Oh and they love watermelon, cantaloupe or pumpkins. I also give my old bread or pasta and they totally love that as well.
