***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We lived in the Chicago suburbs and in one village, "Oak Brook", you could not park a pick-up outside, no weeds in your lawn, you could not hang clothes or anything else outside. Oh by the way...this village only had 2 to 5 acre tracts and the houses started around $1.5 million.
We didn't live there...just next to it.

Serama are really small, too, and can be kept in a rabbit or guinea pig cage. Kept in a shed, garage (or even a bedroom) nobody knows they're there. And some of them have such tiny crows (usually the really small ones) that you can stand right by them and hardly recognize it as a crow.

When we lived inside OKC limits back in the early 1990s, the man next door had over 100 parakeets in his garage. The amount of noise those birds could make was amazing. ...couldn't leave windows open on that side of the house.

DD was goo-goo eyed over some serama @ the auction the other night. I say if she finds another bird she "needs" it should be one she is going to show. Think she has chicken ADD. She has a new favorite breed every week.

Thought about trying to make it to a big chicken show, figure might help her pick just 1 to focus on.

My poor dogs are all snuggled in the living room floor. I went out to go check for eggs & bubba came up to me with his teeth chattering. First time i ever saw a 65lb dog with chattering teeth. Hope all my birds are smart enough to stay dry.

She will do much better by picking 1 primary and 1 secondary for showing. Make sure they both really have her attention and are in different classes.
I don't know what she has as of now but 1 single comb and 1 rose comb would work best as they will not compete against each other until best of show.
June, don't teh serama show in All Other Single Comb Clean Leg, AOSCCL?

Oh my gosh LAWTON IS HORRIBLE.. I never seen such a town against their own.. Lawton should be one big ol gated community the way they treat the citizens... When we moved here back in March 06... someone called the city ordinance on my husbands vehicle.. mind you he was in the field and they said his vehicle was a junk vehicle..

Its because it was a Suzuki Samurai with BIG HUGE TIRES, Lifted and the fenders cut out.. go figure..

I was so hot . First off this is his daily driver and he is out on unit field exercises..

.. another time someone called to say we had a crap load of dogs and our yard was full of dog crap... I was like we have 2 puppies and the yard was clean... From there it just seemed that no matter what we tried to do in the yard.. someone was always calling on us.. ... Then we moved on post and did really good but we prefered to be home owners just always been our preference... Now we are in Elgin and it appears Elgin is making their way to doing the same thing.. Thank goodness we are leaving while we can... even though we will miss everyone

I don't think she has anything show quality right now. She does have a real nice looking blue wheaten Americauna roo, was the very first bird she ever hatched. Ordered the eggs off eBay. She has never expressed interest in having any others like him though! I have a few rir that may have show potential, they are still young but there color is nice. But those are my birds not hers.

I figure as far as show birds go we will be starting from scratch. Guess I need to show her the break down of which birds fall in what class & let her start narrowing her list so next fall she will be ready to make a few shows. I never know what she will like bird wise. Very unpredictable girl, how many others have kids that love guineas? Not your average child.

Neighborhood services always sent us nice letters too. From parking on the grass to having the trailer to close to the road. Always something fun in Lawton. Just think how much time & money they spend making sure you don't break any ordinances.

Went out to collect the eggs, almost got ran over by the chickens................... note to self " do not carry old slices of bread without bringing enough for the whole herd if you don't want ran over"
The chickens are loving the cooler weather, so nice to go outside and see them running around like they should be, not panting and lurking in the shade.

We still own rentals in town where we pay the water, so we still get those letters when a renter does something against the rules. Just don't blame the workers. Several of them are friends of mine. They just do what they are told. Without going into too much detail (there are spies on this board), just let me say that it starts at the top. NS doesn't go around checking on people so much as respond to complaints. They tend to jump much quicker when it is a mucky muck or a city council person. Failing to do so can cost people their jobs.

So, if you ever live in any town, keep neighbors in mind when you buy. Citizens in Lawton just happen to know how to push the right buttons.
