***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I just found out you're supposed to eat eggs everyday if you have high cholesterol (I do). They used to tell you not to eat eggs but they've found out that the natural cholesterol in eggs actually lowers the 'bad' cholesterol and raises the 'good'.
I have just 6 older sexlinks who aren't laying as much and 2 young Cochins that I get an egg a day from between the 2 of them.
The rest are babies who won't be laying until spring.
My 72 yr old mother is eating eggs faster than she can carry them off from me (she's a sneaky old woman).
Therefore I don't have enough chickens to keep my cholesterol at a healthy level.
I need chickens for medicinal purposes.
Robin? Still got the 2 red girls?

One man's back-yard-chickens-in-town is another man's car-parked-on-the-lawn. Part and parcel of the same mentality. People wanting to dictate how other people live.

First things I did when I moved to my 8 acres was park my truck on the lawn and bought some chickens. Felt like freedom, to me. I now (mostly) park my vehicles in the drive, garage, or on the gravel because I don't want to ruin my lawn. I just don't like government entities or neighbors telling me what I can and can't do on my own property.

Thats what the game fowl boys been saying all along Buster, didnt work out to well for us though. Sad to say it aint just the big towns. Used to you could move to a small town and have some freedoms not allowed in bigger ones. But now the small ones are jumping on the band wagon. More little BS ordinances and laws equal more money for the town. You couldnt beat me hard enough to make me live in town any more. With all the animals I got, most towns would have a road block up and a cashier waiting if they saw me coming.

There may be something to that. I have had high cholesterol for years. Back when the hens were putting out way more eggs than we need and could get rid of, I started eating 5 eggs every morning for breakfast. Last weeks blood work said my cholesterol was better than had been in years. I will have to go out and thank the little ladies that make this possible. Oh and before anyone says omg he eats 5 eggs per meal. Most of them are bantam or game eggs that are med size, not extra large eggs.

Serama are really small, too, and can be kept in a rabbit or guinea pig cage. Kept in a shed, garage (or even a bedroom) nobody knows they're there. And some of them have such tiny crows (usually the really small ones) that you can stand right by them and hardly recognize it as a crow.

I bought a pair of Seramas at the Newcastle auction a couple of weeks ago, and they are the sweetest little things. They've been staying in the house mostly, in a large wire cage. Their little miniature sounds are so funny! Just a few minutes ago the little hen sang the egg song, and it sounded so cute, and not nearly as loud as my large fowl songs. Even the little rooster's crow is quieter, MUCH quieter than a large fowl. This little Serama roo's crow sounds a lot like a Chihuahua's bark. I've fallen in love with these little critters, and would love to have even more!

You bought some of my birds. Thank you for giving them a good home. They like to go outside, but they have always lived indoors. I'm happy that you are enjoying them.

It's true! And eggs from your own home raised chickens are like gold as far as helping cholesterol levels. The eggs at the store aren't near as efficient.

I wondered if these were yours after I brought them home.

Up until the cooler temps and rain came, I would take them outside for fresh air during the day then bring them in at dark. They seemed to enjoy the sunshine and grass. The other birds sure checked them out and are probably jealous that they don't get to come in, too. They are wonderful little birds! Thank you for bringing them to the auction.

Here is a photo I took of them a few days after bringing them home.

If you really want to assist in changing this Join the APA and ABA and get the 4H and FFA leaders and schools behind the poultry movement. The city council will be more likely to bend to youth based national organizations. The APA and ABA as well as national 4H and FFA leadership love to tackle things like this, they just need and excuse, a young person interested in the activity however is banned from ownership therefore cannot participate.

You have an excellent point and is an angle that I haven't heard presented to the City Council. Thanks for mentioning that as an option.
