I think the lift is a little premature too, but I can't complain too much - I've got a kajillion tons of wood to burn myself. We bought our place last fall (where no one had lived for five years) and we have been clearing out volunteer trees and brush like crazy. If only people would use good sense when they burn, I'd feel better about it. We always wet down the area the whole night before, use a burn barrel with a screened lid and keep the hose handy. Plus we STAY THERE at all times while burning.

Hi all,

I haven't been on here in a while, been finishing up converting an old 3 room house on our property into a chicken coop. Finished this weekend and took some pics of the girls and boys enjoying their new digs. We sure are enjoying the cooler temps here in the SE part of the state, now we just need some RAIN!!

Anyway my flock consists of Silver Laced Wyndottes, Gold Lace Wyndottes, 1 Blue Laced Red Wyndotte and some Phoenixs. Here's some pics in their new coop.

James bought a huge chipper shredder thing to deal with the vast majority of the brush we deal with because where we live, there's no brush burning allowed inside the city limits, but they don't want you to dump it either. So we run most of it through the shredder (free mulch!) and cut the rest up for seasoning/burning. We don't have a fireplace, but we have friends who do.

We do what we have to, but there are just so many irresponsible people out there.

I wandered around with my camera today while feeding and watering. So far we haven't had any conflicts among the cats and chickens. The ducks completely ignore the cats, as do the goats.
