***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had a big day of cleaning and mowing scheduled, but we don't have water, probably won't get it until after 5 pm (at least that has been the way of it when they are working on the lines) so guess I need to rethink my plans for the day.

Whole pods or cut up? And thanks I had not tried that yet.

Whole pods.

I boiled some up, my that gets mushy and slick. Gave it to them this morning, they were eyeing it suspiciously

I'll go out and check on their progress, but it looked more promising then before, thanks for the info.

Hey Kass, remind me again how you did your sprouting. I am goign to try it for my girls. Has someone give me 4 bags of seeds that were originally to disc into the ground to plant for deer. They like the smallish wheat looking seeds but not the others so thought I would see if they would sprout using your method.

Some breeder lines hatch early some hatch late it all based on the breeder birds. Some breeds and varieties hatch at slightly different times as well. I have some that are always day 19, and some day 22. So if you were hatching different breeds and from different sources that would not be uncommon.

I think that is proabably the case. I got some bantam ameraucana's from banjojoe and some Black Copper Marans from another lady.

The ventilation is not used to control humidity in a cabinet incubator, if your humidity is too low add a sponge or two to your water tray, teh ventilation is critical proper temp balance and fresh air for the developing eggs.
Hope that helps, it will dramitically improve your incubation and hatching success.

No nothing against you or anyone else.. I often write the directions, put them in my shirt pocket, then go change shirts, or put them in teh glove box and drive teh other truck.. I always do something stupid after thinking through so well.

That little laughing smiley was meant to tell you I was joking around! I very well may have to call, ya never know. I think I only have Steph's phone number in my phone so make sure she has it.

i failed to add, once the ventilation is set correctly you have no variation in tray temps what so ever, and a decreased low to high temp swing as well. You can often see a 1.5-2.5 degree temp swing from the time one turns on till it turns off then additional 1/2 a degree or more as teh element cools back off, once the ventilation is set perfectly all teh trays will be balanced, and temp swing will be 1/2 degree or less from on to off. It makes a huge difference but often takes 8-10 hours to get set perfectly. Make sure you are not using it when setting it, though. Once the ventilation is set right then you can properly adjust the temp, once temp is set adjust the water tray by adding or removing incubation sponges until is right as well. one step at a time and you will get it right.
