***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Some of you with the game cocks-what do you feed them? I'm having one HECK of a time finding pelleted feed fit for a rooster in my area (Guthrie). I just posted in another thread about it, someone else was talking about it. I want something that I can feed to all of them and just put out oyster shell for the layers in their yard. I thought I'd found the perfect food (my husband called me from Atwoods in Stillwater). It's NatureWise All Flock by Nutrena. But I just now looked it up and the dang stuff is vegetarian! Which is NOT what I wanted. I don't necessarily want or need all animal protein but I don't want strictly vegetarian either.
Jarvis told me about the stuff in Shawnee but that's quite a haul to drive to Shawnee. I didn't see on their websight where they listed ingredients and protein content, etc.
Most people just feed roosters what the girls eat, because roosters are expendable and they don't keep them long term so what it does to their kidneys is of no concern to them. But mine are pets so that doesn't apply here.
There's supposed to be some kind of game cock feed that would be good. Anyone know if it's any around Guthrie?

GUTHRIE GRAIN makes a real good game cock ration, goes for 12.08 per 50 lbs. My birds have been on it for four months, and look and feel great. I buy it in Harrah, but it comes out of Guthrie. Now, its not ALL pellets, but it is 16% protein, and has layer pellets in it. And yes, i am feeding it to all my birds.

i use the nutrena- i think is what you are talking about- basically i dont mind vegetarian simply because i don't like the way food animals are treated- and can suppliment with insect protien....

Thank you! I just called there and they do carry it right there in the Guthrie location, what an awesome find. Is it $12.08 after tax, you mean? What do you mean it's not all pellets?
The lady there said it was pelleted, does it have other stuff mixed or something? If you get a chance could you let me know what the 1st 4 or 5 ingredients are?
As long as it's chunks instead of those dang crumbles I'm getting it!

Hi all,
Had a few post to catch up on...Okla, like your A frames. I got one from the Jarvis' and really like it...we have used it as a quarantine pen as well as getting ready to move a bunch of feathered out chicks into. They had put a heat shield and light in the top...brooder ready!

Been doing some duck hunting with a buddy..not had bad luck always have been able to bring a few home. Anyone have any migratory geese on their place eating crops they want to get rid of? We're looking for a spot to get a couple geese...they just don't seem to come down on public land...in these parts anyway.

Had my first experience with the VA this morning. Thought I was re-enlisting again with all the paperwork to fill out just to get registered. Got there at 8am, first in line and left at almost 11. The guy told me that was actually fast. Guess it was good staying up late and getting all my ducks in a row (paperwork together)

forgot to say, "Kass, love your EE pic!"
Ya'll have a great day!

It has corn, black oil sunflower seeds, wheat, oats, maize, calf manna, dog food, layer pellets, and I can't think of what else. A really good feed, especially for winter, the seeds, corn, and grain will help the birds stay warm. I can't tell u first five ingredients as i buy it in plain white bags.

Well I have lived here in my new home less than a month. As of last night I have killed one coon, one possum and 2 skunks. I live right next to town here and have had all these critters. So far (knock on wood) I have not lost any fowl. When I lived where we came from, we lived in the country. Once and awhile would lose a bird to coyotes, but never had coons, possums skunks etc. I have a faulkner cur that is on a cable that he can run the intire length of my chicken area on the west side. He has treed the coon and killed one of the skunks. I wish I could turn him lose to run the whole area. BUT I know him well enough that he would be doin critter control down on the nearest creek or draw. I need a young Gaurd dog that will stay close. Anyone know of any pups that fit this bill and are cheap as I am just a poor boy let me know.

I found a thread about it on here somewhere and they showed a picture of it, it looks really good (if I was a bird lol) but they said it was more along the lines of scratch and not a complete feed.
I think I'll buy that for scratch when this 50 lbs of wild bird seed I'm using for scratch is gone. What I'd like to do is buy 4 different kinds of grains and mix it together for scratch. I feel so disorganized, too much going on.
