***OKIES in the BYC III ***

What a dreary day. Cold, rainy and windy. The chickens don't seem to notice or care. They're all about, pecking around like it was any other day. Goofy birds don't have sense enough to find shelter in the rain.

Today is so boring I can hardly stand it. There's plenty I should be doing but just don't want to do any of it, so the day is dragging by. One can only stand so much Sponge Bob Squarepants. Definitely don't want to go shopping. My youngest granddaughter's birthday is next Friday and I've only gotten her one gift so far. That is on my to-do list for this week.

Robin, how's the hen doing?

I discovered that the Seramas like pumpkin pie crust. I tossed a piece to the roo the other day and he made the funniest sounds! Today I gave them both a few small pieces and they went to town on it. Even though there was more than enough for each of them to have their own, they wanted to play keep away with one piece. The large fowl got chopped turkey pieces yesterday and came back for more when it was all gone. Chickens are so funny!

Robin- when we were @ universal studios they have shirts for thing 1 & thing 2. Lots of siblings & couples would walk around wearing them.

Michael we actually went to Walmart in anadarko Thursday night-- wasn't too bad, only saw one person throw a fit. My kids asked if I would take them, they just wanted to see what all the fuss was about

Yesterday went to atwoods- got some t-shirts for $2-$3 that were on clearance & dog food & goat stuff. Plus bought lots off cricut & other little stuff online. Still holding out for cyber monday plan on ordering an embroidery machine, but trying to be patient to see if the price drops soon. The box man should be at my house every day the next few weeks. Our shopping isn't for Christmas gifts, my kids don't get "stuff" for Christmas. From DH they get money towards their car savings & from me they get season passes to frontier city- white water bay. We figure the car money they will be very happy to have in a few yrs & the theme park passes they enjoy all yr. we could buy junk but they forget what it is before the day is over. Both of my girls do pick someone off the angel tree & pick out gifts for them each yr--- I think they get more enjoyment out of that than anything else @ Christmas.

Anyone heading to the auction? I wanted to go, but DD is still not feeling well. Plus got people coming by to firewood, And imagine they will stay for dinner too.

Hubby bought a powder blue 1977 Chevrolet pickup at the auction today. Just got back from following him home with it. He says it drives good...needs work on the heater and a new radio. He says he plans on selling it. It already has a new paint job, seats are recovered, new dash and door panels. Yes, we will see.

Conner has been walking around in a funk, literally, all day. I put him in the tub and doused him with hydrogen peroxide and baking powder again. Most of the skunk smell is in his beard. He must have taken the spray head on. Ick. His bedding came clean the first wash, and his pillow has no oder, but the little hairs around his eyes and chin still carry the skunk scent. He's allergic to everything, including most shampoos, so I hesitate to wash him again for at least two more weeks. I hope he's willing to spend some time outside tomorrow airing out.

quick update on my hen, she seems same - but much happier hanging with the flock, i felt her lump, not much change- don't want to stress her, picked her up tonite and she gave me a good talking to....really not sure what to do at this point other than keep a close watch on her-

my silky hen took on the eggs like a pro, growling at me tonite when i checked on her- she has never been grouchy but made sure i knew she had it under control-

i'd love to get those thing 1 & thing 2 shirts! I think i'll google them...LOL!

It was one of those days ! Got to the sale this morning and as we got out of the truck my buddy locked the doors and of course I had left the keys in it! Had to call the wife and wake her up to bring the other set of keys. She had a bad night because she was upset about Ark loading the game and was still p o Ed this morning. So that was not pleasant!
I have a lady I struck up a friend ship with at the sale because she also deals in g. Pigs like I do. I made her a great deal on the dwarf rabbits I had at the last sale, and told her I would like a chance to get one of her mini satin rabbits when she had extra. So she brought me one today. And charged me full price on it! I go with the old "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours" theory. So she won't be getting any extra good deals from me anymore!
Got a nice pair of young silver phoenix and a beautiful pair of silver spangled hamburg bantams. So there were some good points today!

I watched Julie Child's Youtube video on how to make an omelet so I've been practicing

I'm not much of a cook but that's mostly because I don't like food the way most people do. I know lots of people who are planning their next meal while they're still eating the previous one, their whole day revolves around food. I don't understand that but to to each their own. I also got a couple boxes of blueberry pancake mix at WalMart again-like $1.50 a box and all you do is add water-that's it, just water. The birds just love it! So we made pancakes for the birds and eggs and pancakes for us. That was at 2:00 this afternoon so then everyone was too full to eat dinner so we skipped dinner.
I found a pair of 8 mo old LF Faverolles I'm picking up at the Shawnee show though-I'm way excited about that. I decided to place some of the birds here and concentrate mostly on Faverolles. I've got the Faverolles hen I got from Michael D that I'm just in love with, what a totally awesome girl. I don't know, for some reason I fall in love with some birds and others I just don't bond with. So I'm going to place 2 Easter Eggers, Muesky is taking the 2 Blue LF Cochin hens. I'm going to have to go ahead and place Larry the pretty Blue Silkie cockerel , too, if I can. I like him real well, he's so pretty....I got him as a female. *I thought he was a female and the guy assured me he was. I've got my own Silkie boys to worry about separating. He really is pretty and if you breed a Blue with another color you'd get Blue, Black or Splash babies. So if anyone is interested, he's a sweetie and doesn't look like a Hatchery Silkie like my own little Silkies. I would also place the Silver Lace LF Cochin cockerel if anyone wants him. I'm trying to clear out the 40'x40' yard for only LF Faverolles and stick with them. It's hard placing them and worrying if they're being taken care of, that's my big concern. But if I want to separate and breed Faverolles I have to make a decision to part with some of the others. They're all wormed and don't have bugs or anything like that. They've all been in a different area from the chicks that had gotten sick. Anyhow, keep me in mind if someone is interested.
Okla, it sounds like the Mrs gets into her sports pretty heavily lol! And Robin, that roo is beautiful-what kind is he??? I've wanted a couple pure whites for a long time, they're so pretty. Faverolles come in white, black and blue, I can get that color and still stick with Faverolles after all!

hello and Happy Thanksgiving - much to be Thankful for.

Does anyone have a chick I could borrow to brood with a two-day old chick?
Yesterday, before we left for Texas, I found 4 chicks hatched under my broody Lavender Cochin hen. I didn't take them in the garage to the brooder- MISTAKE! One was still drying off and I hoped the other 3 eggs under the hen would hatch.
Tonight when we got back, I checked and found 3 of the chicks dead -

The lone living chick was tucked way up under the Mama. I brought in in and put it under a lamp and in the brooder. I put a stuffed animal in with it to snuggle up to but it was still distraught. I put a mirror in with it and it calmed down, ate and drank and is quietly chirping to the mirror. I have had some miserable accidents with chicks. I wonder if I could have brought the mama in the garage to stay with the chick?
