***OKIES in the BYC III ***

MJ is coming today to bring her little banty chick to brood with my little CW from the Jarvis'.

NNN still just has the one chick she has hatched. I took out most of the eggs leaving her with two and put a couple of hands full of pine shavings in the nest. I put the little CW in the nest with her and she immediately took it in. I've checked on them three times already this morning and at this last check both babies were snuggled in baby purring and NNN growled at me. I know the two remaining eggs are probably dead in shell. But the reason for my leaving them there is because I will remove them when MJ gets here and we will see if NNN will also accept MJs baby.
If she does, then NNN will raise them in the stock tank in the hottub room until early Spring.
If she doesn't then I will pull the CW and possibly the new baby and brood all three of them inside and return NNN back out in the hen pen.

I had a great visit with Al last night on artificial insemination with chickens. He had great success with his Cornish. Wow! what a great mentor he is!!
Following his suggestions, I'll be doing some chageup in the henhouse later today to set up a pair. And I'll make up the conditioning feed they will need.

Not looking forward to this icy weather. I will still cart water to the teen pen for this snow coming and will then make some changes out there before the next storm. We have a faucet inside the barn that makes water accessible for the cattle tanks and the chicken pens. I still have three or four that have to be encouraged to go into the coop in the teen pen. Perhaps they will get the idea this storm.

Wayne...Great quilt! You Rock!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I will have the same worry with my bantam pen, they don't seem to understand that then need to go inside. I will be putting out my cookie tin heaters today but not turning them on. I also may do some re-arranging of a few hens. I have some that always want to go to the bantam pen.....

Seeing your avatar made me smile. Did any of your hens have a hard molt? I've got three that look awful, and they aren't laying, but they're just as bossy as ever. I hope they grow feathers back quickly and get back to laying eggs.

Hey Poco! A couple of the hens have been molting but you're right - they are still bossy! The Light Sussex seemed to take a break for a while but I saw one of them in the next box yesterday, so things are looking good! I am so enjoying them all.
