***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I love these cookie tin heaters-wow! I'll bet money whoever McGuyver'd these things was an Okie

I ended up going to WalMart and getting 6 tins there because the ones I'd gotten at the thrift store were too small for the gallon waterers to fully fit onto. I'd have made more but between the 2 walmarts I bought all the bottle lamp kits they had. I took a picture of the lamp kit I used, it has everything in it for $6, the tins were $3.50. So with tax that's like $10 a piece. But they'll last for years so I'm really glad to have them. And I'll be so relieved not to have to cart water and frozen waterers. I'm hoping we'll have time to get the electrical receptacles spliced and put in by tonight. I put a close-up of how I connected it to the side of the tin. Those white rubber gasket things came with the kit. I put 25 watt bulbs in them, I'm going to get some 15 watt bulbs in a week or so and try those to see if those will work.

Oh how neat! I was scared to put any heater in my coop because its so small. These will be perfect. What wattage bulb did you use? When you guys were talking about cookie tin heaters I admit I was confused. After seeing the pictures I totally get it! Thank you!

Will be checking in birds at Blanchard Friday night at 730 to about 830 unless someone needs me to stay later. Then all day Saturday starting at 9 am.

A man just called and said he is bringing several big Tom Turkeys and several large roosters. Not for sure of any breeds. He said he was going to try to get here around noon Saturday.

Hope everyone has good luck at Shawnee. Wish I could be there.

I used a 25 watt bulb and I can hold my hand on it and it doesn't get too hot to leave my hand there. I couldn't find any 15 watt bulbs the other day but that's what I'm going to get and I'll bet anything that'll be plenty to keep the water from freezing.

old*cowboy :

Is there any place in or around Shawnee that sales the black rooster gamefowl feed. I been buying it at Chandler but beings as I am going to be in Shawnee Sat. be nice to save a few miles.

S & S Farm Center at 302 S. Beard in Shawnee carries the Red Rooster gamefowl feed for $15.80. They may also carry the Black Rooster. Their phone number is 405- 273-6807

Thanks Nana, I got ahold of them earlier and they have the red rooster like you say. I called the mill where they make this feed and they told me the coop in Weatherford was a distibutor of their feed but did not carry any of the black or red rooster. So I called the coop and told them how much feed me and my friends go through. Starting next week they will carry it there. I dont mind getting feed at Harrah (when they have it which is hit and miss) or buying the black rooster in Chandler where my nephew in law works. It works out ok because always having to go to OKC to the VA for doctoring. It will be nice to have some this close to home, that way I can buy it all here and not have to drive 40 50 miles more each time I go to the city.

Nice pictures - better than any I have seen. The other pics I've looked at didn't show a close enough pic of the connection. I'm going to make some next week - thanks
