***OKIES in the BYC III ***

old*cowboy :

Thanks Nana, I got ahold of them earlier and they have the red rooster like you say. I called the mill where they make this feed and they told me the coop in Weatherford was a distibutor of their feed but did not carry any of the black or red rooster. So I called the coop and told them how much feed me and my friends go through. Starting next week they will carry it there. I dont mind getting feed at Harrah (when they have it which is hit and miss) or buying the black rooster in Chandler where my nephew in law works. It works out ok because always having to go to OKC to the VA for doctoring. It will be nice to have some this close to home, that way I can buy it all here and not have to drive 40 50 miles more each time I go to the city.

Isn't it amazing how a store will decide they can carry an item that previously wasn't in their inventory - when they recognize the opportunity to make money? Sounds like that worked out well for you.

Oh how neat! I was scared to put any heater in my coop because its so small. These will be perfect. What wattage bulb did you use? When you guys were talking about cookie tin heaters I admit I was confused. After seeing the pictures I totally get it! Thank you!

I used a 25 watt bulb and I can hold my hand on it and it doesn't get too hot to leave my hand there. I couldn't find any 15 watt bulbs the other day but that's what I'm going to get and I'll bet anything that'll be plenty to keep the water from freezing.

I used 25 watt all last winter & didn't have a problem.

Me too

I have 4 cookie tins and 2 or 3 popcorn barrels that I don't need...if anyone going to Shawnee wants them, just let me know. I will also have some extra silkied serama cockerels free to pet homes. I will have them stashed away so just ask me if interested...bring a carrier for each one...you can't put two serama roosters together, not even for a little while...there will be murder and/or mayhem if you do. They are NOT cold tolerant.

I guess while I am in the big town of Muskogee today I will pick up some cookie tins. This is like the most awesome idea on the planet.

They're yours...have her track me down. Do you want the popcorn barrels, too...I was thinking that you couold use a higher wattage bulb and make a 'pot-bellied' stove....
