***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I never did find Coral. I asked every short person there if she was Coral and nobody fessed up

So Robin, I'll send the Oxine lol
Neither me or Jackie/Firefly got our Faverolles because the breeder had some problems, that was disappointing. I did get 3 Ameraucanas from Rexbandit that I just adore-2 black and a blue. Also 2 Silkies, a solid inky jet black pullet and a Blue Partridge hen from a lady named Betsy Mahtani. They're beautiful. Also I got a Dark Cornish bantam girl to be buds with my little Dark Cornish bantam who hangs off by herself because she lives with 3 white Silkies. Now it'll be the 2 bowling-balls-on-legs against the 3 cotton balls in that pen.
The little Modern Bantams are such cool little birds. I did fall madly in love with the HUGE Buff Orpington roosters. They were the size of my Golden Retrievers, so big! They remind me of Cochins without the leg feathers. NO MORE males for me though. I've got 7 Gold Silkie boys from the hatchery who are 5 1/2 mo old now, not sure if they're going to get over their whole "pecking order" thing or not so I may have to separate some of them (the reason I got more Silkie girls). A lot of the sale birds were being sold in trios or pairs only. I want pets not breeding stock so there were plenty of those I passed up. I just happened to get the Dark Cornish pullet because a young boy wanted the male and I wanted the female of the pair. The guy sold them separate to each of us so that worked out.
It seemed the majority of the chickens were Old English Bantams and Modern Bantams. I was really surprised not to hardly see ANY LF Cochins at all. And only a couple big males for sale. There weren't even any bantam Cochins for sale that I saw, I'd have snatched those up if there had been. Rebecca traded me 3 of my LF Cochins (not the babies I'd hatched-horrors!) for 3 black Cochin Bantams that I'll pick up later. I just love these 3 little Cochin bantams I got from ArtsyRobin and Firefly last summer! I really want to get a few more. Sigh. I've still got the 40x40 or so yard with just *11* chickens in it. But I like having my options open-haha!

How did I miss you Mitzi? I LOVED the Modern Games too!\\
!!!! Did I say that? They are so Un-Cochin. They seem so elegant with their defined forms. Their every motion is visible. Cochins are one big abundance of feathers; legs, wings, tail all together, moving like a woman in a huge, full skirted ballgown. I think both breeds are perfection. Do I have Bi-polar taste in chickens or what?

June was in finest form, handed me one of Marybeth's Seramas to hold.

I really admired the black Langshank that won Best Asiatic. That roo had quite a presence. I could just see him ruling the barnyard.

lol! I don't know how I missed you either! We got there a little after 7 and left around 1:15 or so. I still didn't want to go home but my husband was eyeballing the OEGB a little too closely so I figured I'd better get him outa' there since every one of them had to be bought *with* a roo. Those Blue Modern Bantams were sooo tempting. I was relieved when someone finally bought the whole group of them so I could quit talking myself out of them. They look so delicate, I was afraid they'd need a heated building to go into. Although I'm already trying to decide how to go about getting something set up for them for spring. They remind me of Italian Greyhounds, I really liked them a lot.

I wonder if they are fast? Their legs are so long.

As I was leaving the EXPO this afternoon, I spotted a trailer with what I thought were Columbian Wyandottes. As I walked closer, they were CW banties. The owner walked up as I was admiring his birds in the open panels. As we discussed his lovely birds, I pointed to one variety I had not seen inside. He was an Antwerp (Australorp) Black Belgian d'Anvers.
The gentleman was Bob Bridges of Georgia and he reports he is known on the showing circuit. Then he asked me if I wanted the little guy that he had not realized was in the trailer until he arrived. When I asked what he wanted for the bird he said "I don't usually give a bird away, but if you want him, he's yours." He even gave me a cup of the little guy's regular feed to mix with mine to insure he transitioned to mine. He spritzed his feet with something for mites and LilGuy calmly rode home with me on a towel in my lap.....my first bantam.....ever!!

So of course...here are a few photos. LilGuy is settled in a quarantine cage and has already been crowing.

That is Bob Bridges, a man I will gladly and happily say is a friend to me, he is a very good man with a big heart and very well known nation wide for virtually everything he raises. Over the last 14 years he has shown at over 400 shows and preformed well at all. heavily invlved with youth poultry programs. if you received a bird free from Bob you made a very good impression. Congrats on teh aquisition.. A pair from bob would have cost me at a friendly discount 100.

Nana, he's beautiful! Sounds like you made quite an impression

I totally missed the lunch. I couldn't have told you what time it was all day I was so loving looking at the birds.

Enabler! He likes them because they sound like our little Serama when they crow lol The little Serama is his buddy. I actually do like the OEGB very much. Those tiny little sweet females are the cutest little things.

I told my husband if one ever got away from me I'd never catch the little bugger with those long legs

Oh, and Muesky/Rebecca did take the Silver Lace boy for breeding. I couldn't bear to give up the girl and it was the boy she was interested in so the girl is staying here. She took him with 2 other Cochins he's been living with so at least he's got 2 girls there that he knows (and has been mating with lol)

I have a Serama named LilMan, he is adorable! Oh man how I wish I could have gotten to go to the Shawnee show!! UGH!! I spent my day cleaning brooders, and taking care of sick chickens. Fun.

How is the weather up there? I hope it is clear for you guys! Does anyone have any pictures of the chickens that were being shown there?
