***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oklahoma weather - sunny and long sleeved weather one day and overcast with a need for heavy jackets and warm hats the following day.

Was able to take advantage of the wonderfully moderate temperature yesterday and put straw bales in the runs that contain ducks. I haven't figured out how the entire 10 foot run gets so muddy, when the source of water is a rubber tub placed outside the chain link fencing, so the ducks put their heads through the chain link to drink but can't splash all the water out of the water dish. In any event, the straw will entertain the ducks for awhile and hopefully give them something besides mud on which to walk.

Hubby has been seeding the pastures with rye and fescue mix. I'm going out now to plant a 5 x 25 bed in the garden with wheat and a 4 x 16 foot bed with some of his annual rye seed...no fescue. Should give the chickens some much needed green variety in the spring to go with their turnip greens.

We're looking at rain mixed with snow.

Better living with electricity.

Since you know they're going under, an inexpensive fence charger, and a hot wire installed about 5 inches off the ground on the outside of the pen will do the trick. Deters Raccoons, Skunks and Opossums as well. If they are very big, or very hairy dogs, you can run two wires, one at 5 inches, the other at around 8.

No dead dogs, no angry landlord, and most importantly, no more dead birds

thanks everybody for ideas. thinkn I migt put the live wire up also. the dog owner is a very good friend of nine so I do not want to ruin the friendship over chickens and dogs. i think That i will let the other neighbors take care of the 3 s's.

I haven't seen the weather so no clue where I stand on the snow front, but hoping it is just rain this far east.

Hoping today is a nice sunny warm day I'd like to get a lot done outside today.

Sorry about the loss of chickens, hot wire sounds like the best solution to the problem.

Pretty chicken pics everyone.

I finally got some duckweed from a local pond, now let's see if I can keep it alive through to winter to have a running start this spring on growing my own.

You guys are terrible flaunting your adorable little Old English Game Bantams around the board and talking about how wonderful they are, how hardy and cheap to feed & house.
It's you all that planted the seed in my head. If I didn't know any better I'd say it was also you all that forced me into going up to see Michael D at the swap today, too. Because you guys must've somehow known he had some gorgeous OEGB's up there. You Okies have no shame.
