The Durant schools seem to be pretty good, they just opened the new high school up this school year, it is very nice. As for living in durant I do not know, as for working there, it is not bad at all, not a lot of shopping malls or things like that, but the town is thriving and growing, about a 20 minute drive to sherman texas or about an hour to dallas texas for shopping malls.

Hopefully, between now and December 25 when the "Holiday Hunting Season" ends, you will get your anterless deer. Are you hunting in an area where the limit is 2 does or just one doe?

Teach - only on a chicken forum can you get information about different school districts and the distance to chicken auctions.

Durant or Silo sound like they would fit the school/employment/chicken auction needs.

Morning! Has anyone used moth balls or dryer sheets to repel mice? I found a mouse in my pantry last night, and I'm overwhelmed by the "ick" factor. I want the little toodlers gone! I read on several different threads that Downy dryer sheets are offensive to their little noses. Moth balls are supposed to keep them away as well. Between the two, the dryer sheets will have a nicer scent for the humans in the house. Does anyone know if dryer sheets work to repel mice? In the mean time, I put several snap traps out. DH can't tolerate cat hair (allergies), so I can't bring any of the barn kitties inside. Buckeyes eat mice. No way I can have chickens in the house, though. I can't stand the thought of rodents in my pantry

Chores are done and I'll be headed to Quinton for a funeral today with a neice and nephew.
Hope we beat the rain on the way back...we may meet it on it's way east since we will be traveling west on the way home.

Hope everyne has all done in preparation for the first big snow. Can't imagine folks in the Panhandle are wanting this much snow!

Mornin' Okies! 3rd pot of coffee this morning already....still can't get the eyes open or the motivation going. Kids are home from school and I still have a bit of shopping to do

Have a great day all! To all you in the "snow zone" be careful!

P&B I agree that this is a great place for info!

The rain is falling...sure is nice we haven't seen much of it. So far it isn't acting like it wants to do anything else! I guess my grounding worked!!!

Snakes are good at getting mice!

The mottled OEGB pullet I got yesterday didn't make it, I didn't expect her to but sure wanted her to. I knew she was sick when I got her, Mike was upfront about that. But my co-dependent personality kicked in and she's the one that pulled at my heartstrings. She got to die warm & inside with a full crop so maybe that was God's plan after all. I've got 3 pullets and the cockerel left, these guys are smaller than my Serama (who looks quite 'padded' after looking at the OEGB, I might have to put him on a diet). These guys commonly live outside all winter long like big chickens? Jeez, they're smaller than pigeons.
It also occurred to me.....can I put 3 Modern bantam pullets with these guys? The 3 OEGB pullets seem gentle and sweet, could I except 3 Modern bantam pullets to get along with them? Then I could still get my Modern girls. And I soooo want my tiny Modern girls.

Were i live were only aloud one doe for the holiday season but im still trying to get me a big ole buck with my stick & string. One of my friends has a hunting website and is trying to put together a video this year so we've been recording our hunts all this year and its made for a very unique experience.
