***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm family! What time do we eat!lol. I love coconut anything!lol
When you get all them weed runners puled you can come over and help me! Did I say I hate bermuda grass! I don't think you can get all the runners from it! Even if you spray it ,it will still come back after a while! Have you sent your seeds in yet? I need to do that, need to check and see how many we are up to.

Yes, I sent my seeds in last week. I sent 5 different types, enough for everyone to get all varieties. (Could have put a few more but my envelope was filled.)

I don't think I will EVER be finished pulling runner grass. But I'm really hopeful that the chicken moat will make a difference. It's not in yet, but hopefully we'll have it up by spring. I still have tons to pull. Several of the gardens got away from me last year and overrun w/ grass, I won't spray though, that is where I grow my food and my girls live there too.

We ended at 13 so 12 pkts plus the sender (you) or (me) or (whoever)

Oh and we eat at 2:00 Tomrrow in Henryetta, there's a chair waiting.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I very much enjoy reading the Okie thread, it feels so homey here, I'm up reading the internet way too late again!

I lurk along and talk back to the screen sometimes and laugh out loud and read the funny bits to my DH.
(caught him feeding treats to the girls this morning, warmed my heart to see it)

Mah chicken-y news:

Someone got me a gift certificate to a hatchery for Christmas...so now I'm "expecting" !

I'm due the last week of February! My first hatchery order!

(

) I want my flock to be one ( or more) of all the chickens I think are cute. I cannot help how many different kinds of chickens I find adorable, now can I?

Darn that hatchery minimum order size! (

) I do have a couple of friends that helped me out by letting me order a couple of things for them to reach my minimum, and I am expanding and rebuilding my coop this spring. (being able to walk into the coop=good, current arrangement? O my aching back!)

If everyone lives this time around I could be in trouble chicken-math-wise, but you all would help a girl re-home a chicken or two? Right? I'm hoping I do better keeping-alive-percentage-wise this year with these hatchery birds than I did last year with my "starter" feedstore birds.

Anyway that is what I have going with chickens, nothing cool like hatching or breeding.

I notice some of you garden on here, and I went over to the sister site for gardening and the okie thread over there kinda seems fizzled, would anyone be interested in swapping plants/seeds this spring? I always start way more than I have room to plant, and santa filled my stocking with seed packets this year instead of candy.

I cold frame garden over the winter, does anyone else here do that?

Looks like everyone has gone to sleep LOL I had company for a bit today That was a blast, I think my gander enjoyed it as much as I did, he followed us around everywhere we went protecting us from dogs and pigs and such, I went out a bit ago just to check on things and found a feral cat in my chicken pen, didn't get anything but was sure surprised to see me for sure, I know where to set the live traps now though,

Good morning!!!

It has been a busy weekend here, it always goes by too fast! Another wall on the building, the wind sure is making it hard!

Bird/Wire~ sounds like you got your hearts desire for Christmas! I'm sure you will have a great time raising day old's!

Carl did ya get a new really cool coffee pot? I have two & don't like either! They just don't make them like they use to.

Got a new one, it took me all of a half hour to buy one.. they are kinda critical you know. Not as nice as my old bun, but it still makes coffee and makes it fast enough

Well,
a new round of Birchen, Opal, and Silver Blue hatched this morning. 1 hold out to go but it has pipped so should be ready by tommorow as expected.
I am still running a bit behind but better late than never. I am still going to call them 2011 hatches anyway.
the first of the 2012 birds hatch week after next and we offically start the 2012 hatching season.
Should get some good numbers out this year with several new breeder birds being added to pens and pullets that have matured or will be by february and are ready for the season

Okla - are you sure that guinea pig with the "barber like" personality isn't pregnant? I have had pregnant rabbits "groom" any other rabbits within reach to line their nest for new kits. Makes it a challenge to figure out which one it was that kindled when the fur in the nest isn't the same color as the fur of the doe.
