***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks for the input on bending conduit, everyone. I know the chickens don't care if it's not perfect, but I want my engineer husband to be able to look at my pasture pens without cringing. I'm thinking about sandwiching the tarp between a bottom layer of 1" chicken wire and a top layer of plastic chicken fencing, the green stuff that's really heavy-duty. Do you think this would keep the tarp from flapping, tearing, or wearing too quickly? I want to go a whole year on each roof without having to patch or replace.

I guess I should read other posts before posting. Saw where there won't be a Newcastle auction tomorrow.
Harrah auction is tonight at 5:30

Newbie alert!

Hello all :) Just taking a moment to introduce myself. Norman resident, on an active hunt for land in the surrounding area for myself, DH and DS. Currently chicken-less (BOO!) but I grew up in Choctaw on a small farm, and miss it. I want my kiddo to experience some rural action after being such a city slicker. Plus, fresh eggs, he can't believe that they really are better, but proving him wrong will be fun!

Right now I am just doing a ton of reseach, leaning toward Buff Orpingtons to start with once we get moved. And coop plans, oh my. When will that winning Powerball ticket land in my greedy little fingers?

I can talk your ear off about making soap, and land surveying. I am looking forward to learning & hopefully being a contributor of something useful at some point.

I'd like to say

, and here to the Oklahoma side of it.

Sooner, why the hospital? Hope everything is ok :-/
Mitzi, are you sure I can't talk you out of any eggs? I'm looking for some to set in about a week and I'd really like to try yours

hope everyone has a wonderful day and weekend
I'm not getting any eggs from the Fav yard (which has a Silkie boy in with the Fav boy). I'm getting 1 every few days from the OEGB's and getting lots from the layer's yard but they'd be a mix of Sexlink and Marans. No one else who's laying has males in with them. Are you wanting purebreds or mixes?

Welcome Outlandish, love the name! I know I'm not supposed to say this but I can't tell the difference between store bought eggs and eggs from my girls

Me and my Serama, Channing, watch movies on my iPad together a couple evenings a week-we're both spoiled rotten. Last night we watched the Golden Globes (I had downloaded it) & Colombiana (great movie, surprisingly). Tonight we're watching War Horse and I can't wait. We saved War Horse for our "special Friday night movie" because I wanted to see it real bad. Channing is so awesome! I get all settled with pillows and a blanket and snacks while he waits patiently watching me. Then he makes his little fussy noises and jumps up on me and snuggles up under my chin and we watch our movie. To those of you who don't have Seramas-it's a whole 'nother ballgame than owning chickens. He's nothing like my other chickens, he's more like a tiny Pomeranian. I swear to God-he doesn't even poop on me-seriously. I'll pause the movie every so often to get up and do something and set him down on his newspaper and he'll poop then. I just turned 52 Sunday, it was more depressing than turning 50. But when I'm snuggling with this sweet little bird, watching movies in the dark on my iPad I realize I like 52 and being able to do this-how weird is that?? lol! I found chopped up Smores in a bag (for real!) at WalMart so that's our snack for tonight. It's really relaxing and I love looking forward to movie night with Channing

I had to edit this to thank June for Channing-thank you, June!!!!

Ksane - Your stories about Channing are wonderful. You make me yearn for a lap chicken. DH would blow a gasket, though, so I'm still resisting. My mom said War Horse is a terrific movie. Let us know if you like it. I may rent it next week.

Would your DH have a problem with like a Parrot? Channing's cage has that egg crate material (for ceilings) on the bottom with a pull-out pan under it that I keep sawdust/wood pellets in so he's WAY less messy than my 2 Doves and honestly-he doesn't smell at all, plus he gets baths all the time. I'm always surprised at the number of people who see nothing wrong with keeping a big parrot inside yet balk at the thought of a chicken. I think it's just the idea of them being 'chickens'. Maybe you could tell him it was some sort of rare Parrot? It's worth a shot lol
