***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey everyone.

They sky is orange today! Didn't get out much today except for this morning to replenish the food and water for the chickens out back. The warmer temps are nice but the wind has got to go.

The silkied Serama chicks got to be out of their brooder for awhile today for the first time. I had to stay close by so the cats wouldn't snack on them. All of my cats like to catch birds, especially young ones that get away from their nests. My Maine Coon made a few attempts to charge at the little babies but thanks to my lightening fast reflexes he didn't get far. Ok, so my reflexes aren't lightening fast, but I managed to keep him away from babies and their mama. They were indoors, so that helped.

I sure would like the temps to hold till spring but this wind has got to go LOL I have to much to do so have had to deal with it all day and it's just wearing me out, I've been fighting a bug for a few days now it hasn't gotten bad just annoying I guess I picked it up at Blanchard sale there were a lot of nasty coughs going on there and since this thing had kinda moved from nose to throat and now to chest I was going to avoid people and skip the Newcastle sale anyway I usually don't mind sharing but this I think is better kept to myself this time, I haven't made as much progress in this nice weather as I wanted to but then I guess I never do LOL

Just replaced some lines to try and improve my Internet connection, so far so good, Not really the right wire it's all I have though but it does seem better than what I had so lets try pictures

This is the travel trailer I got for $50 I am still clearing out the insides to set up for nesting and roosting then I'll set it on a floor and pull the tandem axle trailer out from beneath it so I can rebuild it

It's 22' feet long all together the box/future coop is 19' feet it's already a fun project Like I needed any more projects

The wind rocked the outdoor part of my duck pens and popped the doors open. I had cotter pins, the kind with one straight side and one squiggly side, through the bottom of each door latch. The wind repeatedly lifting the small tarps on both pens was enough to work the pins out. I'm glad I went out after lunch to check water dishes because I found the doors open and my ducks around the silky pen. They were calling names and making faces, and the silkies were puffed up and standing on their toes trying to look taller. It took hours to get all the escapees back in pens, but at least I didn't lose any. I've wired the doors closed. The wind is still really strong here, so I hope the wires hold.

Cool! It will be interesting to see when you get it completed...

first serama hatchling.... here is baby number one- another looks like it will hatch tomorow, the last one i'm not sure on, there is a lighter ring between the air sack and the dark area- might be he is behind the others in development? bad photo, but you get the idea....

this wind is crazy- had to retie the tarp a couple times, and the geese and ducks put themselves to bed early

It looks like it's still wet from hatching but cute as can be!

You guys with your creative ideas are making quite the homes for your birds with a bus, a cotton thingy and an RV. Be sure to post pics of the progress on them so we can all be jealous.

i was afraid the two hens might fight over them, but so far so good-

am really considering rehoming the geese- anyone need a pair? i'd take a gentle drake for my ducks in trade....

I was concerned that you might lose a hand. Those broodies can sure be viscious when defending their babies. Are you going to separate the mamas?

Edited for spelling. Guess I should use the spell checker on here...
