***OKIES in the BYC III ***

And by the way, this is one of the prettiest chickens. Such a sweet thing and her name is Dragon? lol

Dragon hatched from a set of eggs that a BYC friend sent me. She was the first to hatch, but came out looking very funny. She didn't hatch with the crossbeak, it developed later. Anyhow, the first few days after she hatched I tried to get ahold of the friend on FB because I couldn't remember what breed(s) she was supposed to be. Other friends saw my FB posts and teased me that I had hatched a dragon; thus her name. :)
Artsyrobin has been a tremendous help to me and I believe we may have found a friend for Dragon. Thanks so much y'all.

I am glad it worked out. There are many helpfull folks in this part of the country, sure makes a person proud to live here.

Hey Sooner I like the ideal of making molasses! I bet TJ"S PaPa could tell us how to do it. Maybe we could make it a community thing to do in the fall. I'd love to do it at least once. I'm with Elwood I love it mixed with butter on hot biscuits!

Haveing home grown dark yellow eyed eggs for supper! Sure is nice to grow something of your own for the table. Except I keep seeing baby chicks everytime I take a bite!

Oh good! Let us know how they get along :) She can be Puff The Magic Dragon.

Ksane - Barnevelder come in double laced and partridge. Both are very pretty. I have seen some project birds in blue, but they didn't have the distinctive double lacing. The partridge are a little lighter on their heads and breasts, and the feathers are single laced. I had both in the past, but my favorite is the double laced, so that's all I'm raising now.

My 4 year old grandson asks me "Is there a chick inside this egg?" each time he comes to Nana and Papa's farm and goes out to the henhouse "to pick eggs".

Has anyone ever found a collection of audio files for the different vocalizations of chickens? I had a stressful moment yesterday when my blue Andalusian roo (from LynninOK) called an alarm. It sounded like he was being squeezed then released, squeezed and released. When I reached the pen, he was fine, but he had his head cocked sideways and was pacing. I looked up and saw two carrion birds, the big ugly shoulder shoppers that look like vultures, flying over the barn. As soon as they were gone, he was back to normal. I'd never heard such a soulful, anxious sound from a rooster before. He and his lady bird have not blessed us with any eggs yet. I hope to be able to set eggs from them by the end of February. They have become quite a nice looking pair.
