***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I know poops is still in the works...... But i was wondering Is there anyway possible to create a master list of what people want & have for swapping?

Blanchard this weekend, Newcastle the next Carah you should just plan to visit sooner then you'd get to see more folks LOL I took off today to visit doctors and get poked and prodded home for a few between trips all the critters are well, One of the new geese I got Saturday in so funny she is thin and nervous, won't let me get close to her but follows me around at what she thinks is a safe distance I guess, I don't know if she is thin from needing to eat or if she maybe is just young still but, both of the new Embdens are doing well and so are the Barred Rock pair I got, I need a few more hens and I'll have a nice flock of them, I am getting my incubator ready and will have a lot of eggs to go in them, I should have plenty of Buff Orpingtons for sale after a bit, The lady from the Fletcher auction that I got my Roo from if you are following the thread PM me and we can plan on getting you some of his babies if you still want them..

Yes I am aware I have to be careful. We already have 4 hens here, and we can only have 6 total. Fortunately, our 4H clubhouse also have chicken pens that we can rent out. When these broilers exit the cute and fuzzy state we can move them there and raise them there until it is time to process them.

My kids love our chickens, and I love our chickens, but they had to face up front the harsh reality a few weeks ago that our chickens are for food. Either eggs or meat. Yes I am a mean mom.

Oh I think I can taste the fried chicken already.

Yum.

Angela - you probably know this already, but just in case: City of Tulsa laws are you can have six (6) full-grown birds, but you can have 14 chicks up to 8 weeks, which usually covers the few weeks it takes for meaties to get to processing age. So you will still be legal without moving them to the 4H facility if you want to. Here is a link to the Tulsa ordinances: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/tulsa-oklahoma-chicken-ordinance

Thanks.. I know the ordinances...

But all those chicks can get a little noisy and to keep my neigbhors happy I am going to move them. Plus I don't want to have to build a second coop for the meat birds, and the pens at the 4H facility are already built. :)

Hi City Clucks!!! Glad to see you again.

I log on to the internet in Firefox And in Google Chrome. I have not had any trouble getting on the new BYC in those two browsers.

Hi Okies! I am still catching up - enjoy looking at everyone's photos, and it sounds like lots of people have building plans - good deal! I still have trouble getting around on the new BYC site too...

Ok so hubby being the great man he is went and met a couple from Tulsa that said they had some roosters they had to get rid of. They live in city limits and were not allowed to keep the roosters. I thought fine, they had: 1year old black australorp, 6 month old black australorp, 6 month old buff orphington, 3 month old blue andulusian roo, and a pair of EEs that they didn't know what they were but thought they were roos, oh and a RIR rooster. Offered to let me have them all for $40. I felt like it was a good deal for us since we needed the australorp and buff for breeding and hope to breed the RIR with some barred rocks if I ever find any.

Sooooo hubby gets them home (made a quick turn and burn trip to get them so we could make the Newcastle auction that night) puts them in our quarentine pen and off we went to the auction. Yesterday while cleaning coops I kept looking at the buff rooster he is huge and he really doesn't have a red comb and not real "roostery" looking. Now the younger black aust. has his waddles started and his comb is starting to get red. I haven't heard any but the 1 year old crow (and he had to be moved because he kept picking fights with the new Cuckoo rooster I bought that night). But I figure these folks must have know what ones were roosters right? Well today hubby sent me a pic of a nice brown egg from the pen they are sharing. Me is thinking that that buff is no roo at all! LOL Sooooo I guess I will put "it" in a pen all alone and see if I get eggs, haha. But if he is a she I am back to needing a buff orphington rooster, lol.

Morning all,
Okieridge roosters get easier find real soon, but check with micheal daughtery he will likely have one or know where one is for you. he is great resource for many of us, and will surprise you with what he has at times. I will also say he does take real good care of the birds while he has them, will be very open and honest with everyone he deals with.
